I dont have a problem with the Golden Arrow busses really... I was very impressed with how they looked inside... Must have got a good amount from the tender to upgrade the busses?

Best sign inside the bus was:

STOP TB - Open the windows

A 10 minute wait for the bus and a 15 minute trip? Are you being serious? Stop being absolutely pathetic. Those times are more than in line with what you would experience in a first world country. You queued for 15 minutes? Haha, get a life dude and take your negativity elsewhere!

I am still wondering what he did in the 3 hours before he reached his car...www.6000.co.za got home to Kenilworth in 30 minutes from leaving his seat.

Peak demand after the match is an issue....Hence...43 new 156 seater and 120 seater Volvo buses and IRT enclosed stations outside the stadium and at the Civic Centre.

The bus shuttle was to test the route, not the buses/stations.

Shove your attitude. Reading a moron's post like yours makes me negative.

I did not say it took 3 hours, read again.
I said be prepared for that.
This was 40 000 people, not 68000 people leaving at the same time.
I left early like a few 1000 other people who did not want a hassle getting back to their car, it took about 45 min.

I can think for myself, unlike you, you are told what to think.
You can stick your attitude.
Go read this when you're done patting yourself on the back.

So there's the heart of the problem. You can't like Cape Town Stadium, because you are afriad that it will mean the end of Newlands. From what I've seen the bus service ran brilliantly, even though GA Busses are known to be bad. I can't wait to see how a trial with the IRT busses go.

Um, don't tell me what I like, you seem like a moron to me.
said it's a nice stadium, but Newlands is the place for Rugby.

Still touchy about it I see. I guess I'm a 'moron' for thinking that Cape Town Stadium is great. I've been to Newlands, and I think that the place is a dump. I see CApe Town Stadium as progress, in the USA sports team move every 20 or 30 years, they realise that stadiums get old, and that new ones are better.

But what do I know, I'm just a 'moron'? :crying:

Straight back at you, bud!
"Grow a brain" lol

Now you 2 geniuses please explain why Cape Town is a better choice than Newlands.
I'm waiting....

To help you.
Tell me how many seats are in each stadium.
The number of suites in each stadium.
What it will cost WP to move there.
Do some research people.

And if you 2 morons could actually read, you'd see that I actually like the new stadium.
It just isn't financially viable for WP to move there.

Newlands has about 51 000, Cape Town will have 55 000 'normal' seats post 2010. Cape Town will have more boxes post 2010. As for viability, at Cape Town WPRU won't need to pay for maintenance. Newlands costs the union money to keep at any sort of standard. Also, Newlands isn't considered financially viable anymore. Notice how during the Lions's tour there was no test match there, there's a reason for that.

No where did I mention anything about WP Rugby moving. I love Newlands. My brother played in the game on Saturday and actually says he prefers the atmosphere at Newlands because apparently it feels as if the crowd is "right on top of you". I was simply referring to your negativity regarding the logistics (I was there and was very impressed) of the Stormers Boland game. What is with the continual references to our intelligence?:)

Sorry for that IQ reference then. :)

I'm sure they'll sort out the travelling thing eventually, which is why they're having test runs, as you'll see from the other thread it was a problem for many people.
Not everyone arrived at the same time. I got to the civic center just before 3pm, and sat on my seat just before 4 pm.
That is a long time, hence me suggesting that people get there 2 hours before kickoff (when there's 68 000 people) and be prepared to spend 3 hours getting out of there.

As I understand things, the stadium can only have around 55000 seats as CT traffic cannot handle more than that.
That would be why the seats will be removed after the WC.

No, seats are coming out to add more boxes, as boxes bring in most of the money.

I parked at the Civic centre.
Was a schlep getting to the stadium from there.
5 min walk to bus.
10 min wait for bus.
15 min trip on bus.
15 min walk from stop to stadium
15 min wait in que to get into stadium

Once in the stadium, everything was great, was quite impressed.
It ain't Newlands but its still good.

Left 20 min before the end, because I didn't want to experience the schlep with 40 000 people leaving at the same time.

If you're going to go to the stadium, make sure you take ZERO FOOD with you, lots of people had to hand in biltong, droewors, cooldrinks, water etc.
Get to Cape Town 2 hours before the event starts, and be prepared to spend 3 hours getting back to your car.

Just out of interest, where did that bus stop? If it was moving for 15 mins and then you still had to walk for 15 mins to get to the stadium ( a five min drive from the Civic centre - I did it today) where on earth did it drop you? Or was there a lot of traffic?

amazing how one idiot can throw things off.

Once again, the GA bus shuttle was to test the route, not the new stations and not the new buses.
The final test event will use the new stations and Volvo buses.

You've gone and built yourself a lovely white elephant.
You know it, I know it. :)
You won't admit it obviously.

Now lets wait a year and see what happens to it.

You guys are scarily desperate to get WP to use it, wonder why?

I had doubts about the stadium at first too, but Stade de France (part of the operator company) have experiance of running a big stadium without a tenant. They run the Stade de France in Paris. It's an 81 000 seater stadium, with no tenants, neither PSG nor Stade Francais moved to the stadium, but the operator keeps the stadium going.

Walked in peak post match crowds from my seat to the bus stop area in under 10 minutes.

The new IRT station will be connected to the circle, so even closer.

Views of those attending

More praise for the bus shuttle:

http://66squarefeet.blogspot.com/2010/02/cape-town-stadium.html

Do not bother going near the stadium in your car. Park at Artscape or near the Civic Centre, queue for a bus where they tell you to, and off you will go, as they arrive, endlessly, in rotation. I have never seen anything this streamlined in this country. Or any country.
And it's free.

Men and women in yellow How Can I Help You? T-shirts helped us. Go there, wait here. Everything will be OK.

Our convoy cruised through green lights all the way, controlled by traffic police in our favour. We felt presidential.

South Africa is not known for its sterling public transport. On the contrary. So this was very exciting.

We were dropped off to walk approximately 400 metres (wild guess) to the stadium, and passed some new porta loos in case we absolutely had to pee right there.

Finishing touches include the indigenous plantings to be...

Fever trees have been planted in the pedestrian concourse beneath a new raised traffic circle.

There she is.

More How Can I help You?s were on hand at the gates. We should have stuck to this queue, at the main gates, as any gate will let you into the stadium area, regardless of your seating assignment. Instead we were directed to other gates with only four entrances and got stuck for a long time.

Thumbs up from a wheelchair user

Well, it seems that Cape Town Stadium ticked most of the boxes after our second event. There are a few operational issues, behind the scenes, that still have to be properly worked on, but there is nothing major.

CT%20Stadium%20035a.jpg

People seemed to enjoy watching Western Province beat Boland, and there was a huge cheer from the local side as a certain Mr. B Habana came on in the second half! But mostly it seemed to be a second string team... The politicians were there (after all there were some TV cameras, and media there too...).

But the stadium seems to have a good 'vibe' when it has such a large audience...which is something that the designers wanted to achieve, but one never knows if it is possible until it is actually used.

The shuttle service into the stadium worked, although in future this would be replaced by the IRT system, which should be up and running to the stadium by the time the FIFA event happens. It was so enjoyable, as a wheelchair user, to be able to use the same approach routes, the same shuttle service (OK, I had to wait for the one bus with the low floor and ramp) the same entrances as everyone else. I must say that the area under the raised circle is very elegant, but there is not much headroom for the mounted police!

One spectator suffered a heart attack on the podium prior to the event, but all the emergency services could easily attend to him, and the ambulance was able to pull up alongside with hardly any delay.

I felt the strange clouds over Table Mountain were trying to mimic the stadium at times...very odd.

CT%20Stadium%20VIPLounge.jpg
For this second event, the higher areas were used (up to level 4) which included the VIP lounge (which has to be the best place to be in the whole stadium).

The shuttle service worked well leaving the stadium too, although no one should expect to be able to get out of Greenpoint, or indeed Cape Town quickly at the end of the match...
