According to http://www.telkom.co.za/athome/products/dsl/speed1.html

Your line speed is approximately 5024.6 Kbps or 615.8 kBytes/sec
( Where kb = kilobits and kB = kiloBytes )

Your line speed is approximately 5119.2 Kbps or 627.4 kBytes/sec
( Where kb = kilobits and kB = kiloBytes )

Your line speed is approximately 4834.1 Kbps or 592.4 kBytes/sec
( Where kb = kilobits and kB = kiloBytes )

Your line speed is approximately 5224.1 Kbps or 640.2 kBytes/sec
( Where kb = kilobits and kB = kiloBytes )

and yes I flushed my cache and hit CTRL-F5 :)

I'm on 4mbps and yes I tried all the different options, F5 on its own, clicked refresh, CTRL & F5 the works... Just very strange :) and my general browsing reflects the speeds as well, strangely fast!

Very strange - mine is also about 200kbps faster than usual.

Maybe the result is tweaked by Telkom to give the impression that your line is faster than it actually is.

We must keep an eye on this...

Interesting. Telkom actually has the cheek to state that your speed is faster than it actually is? This is what I call a false positive.

Well this is what I got on a 512 line
Your current bandwidth reading is:

419.00kbps

which means you can download at 52.38 KB/sec. from our servers.

Telkom gives
Results:
Below is the data used to calculate your download speed:

Download time: 6.859 seconds
Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
Estimated line speed: 594.8 (kilobits/second)
Estimated line speed: 72.9 (kiloBytes/second)

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! READ THE BLOODY FORUM!

I POSTED A THREAD EXPLAINING IN GREAT DETAIL WHY THE TELKOM SPEED TEST GIVES WAY FASTER RESULTS...

And GreatBigMouth as for discussing the telkom speed test page giving false results, surely getting faster speeds than your are syncing to the exchange at would be the main indicator that something is not right with the speed test.

How can someone say, "oooo look telkom speed test is saying im getting 5mbit and wow speeds are fast". Of course they fast, they probably getting 4mbit which is awesome. But use your brain here people, you syncing at 4096, how the HELL can you download at 5mbit+ speeds?

A local speed test and international speed test are 2 totally different things. Trying to be clever is not always easy...
And you should know, right? Why are they two totally different things, Im dying to know.

Just something off topic about the line speeds. I've noticed that on some of the newer Telkom ADSL posters it shows minimum speeds. It does not state that these minimum speeds apply to local only and therefore should apply for international. None of the tests I have done today on www.speedtest.net have given me that minimum speed for 4mb. (I think its 640kbps?) Max I've gotten is 490kbps.
Telkom probably won't care and ICASA probably wont do anything.
Although the Advertising Authority do seem to do something about Telkom's incorrect advertising. Wouldn't this be false advertising by Telkom?
(Unless i'm the only one getting these slow speeds from International!)
