Everyone used their work Wi-Fi for this.

Also:

"“As the clock ticked one past midnight – crickets. We did not see the kind of volumes that we usually see,” she said."

Just goes to show that nobody uses the 'off-peak' data, included with most mobile data packages.

Seems special enough to pull you in. Next time ignore poopy saving on aircon?

The "Aircon mafia" seems to not make pricing readily available (other than ACDirect with their weird pricing).

If you want a quote they normally want to do an inspection. And it takes a lot of time to phone everyone.
Time no one wants to spend phoning company after company and going through the same conversation over and over.

It feels like car insurance. You have to give them your full details before they want to quote you.

I think SA has realised black Friday is no more than a discount month. I see items on takealot 38% discount, then you find it somewhere else cheaper. Who uses a list price as a guide these days.

maybe there is a good idea behind it?
see the size of the room, power/mounting requirements,
and then quote you.

now if one were to do the installation oneself, maybe a better deal is possible.

It is not difficult to work out how large a room is for anyone with even basic math skills. Considering standard ceiling height is 2.7m, it is easy to then work out the Width and Length of a room and multiplying the two figures to get the square meters (not cube). Most aircon sites assume standard ceiling heights and only work on square meter.
Then you can determine which unit would be sufficient for a particular area.

State whether mounting brackets is included or not, and if not have an option to add mounting brackets.

How difficult is it to state that any aircon above 12000BUT must have a dedicated circuit breaker which must be installed by a qualified electrician to do the coupling?
For this reason I don't agree that there is a good idea behind it.

You are saying that the assumption should be that everyone are idiots and thus should not even have access to pricing on the web?

Doing the above is not rocket science. Really.

sure more than a few people here have horror stories from builders to do ONE simple thing,
and how it ended up,

so yes, rather get a quote from somebody who knows what they are saying,
then "guess" and get it wrong.
