But if you can give me information on the following it would be apprectiated.

When ever clouds are in the sky and it rains softly or hard; my adsl keeps loosing connection. Why would this be?

Its not like it a wifi connection.

...welcome to the world of South African ADSL...
This seems to happen often, particularly when there is rain - seems to be due to very bad copper cable to the house or a knackered router setting...

For me, it's a cabling issue - been waiting for 6 months for Telkom to come and replace the cable from the pole to the house - slightest wind or rain and the connection goes for a ball...

@LJDK: Amazing things can affect SA's ADSL. Recently they even tried to blame SunSPOTS! Seriously!

LJDK I made a comment on something like this here:

Don't just give up on it though, if it annoys you enough and you're prepared to give Telkom grief about it then report it as a fault. What you're experiencing are sync losses. Telkom will probably tell you that if it's intermittent then you must report it WHILE it is occurring, so you need to get hold of a cell number for the technician that will be dealing with your problem and call him immediately as it occurs. He can then run tests on the line to try and determine where the break is and possibly fix it.

It's probably not gonna be the easiest thing to get sorted out but it must be possible - chances are it's just the line from your house to the street pole that needs replacing.

I've been trying to get Telkom to check my line to check the copper cabling between my house and the exchange. Been getting disconnected every 2-3 min when it rains and it's annoying. They keep blaming it on my modem, filter, phone even tho i tell them when the weather is bad the ADSL keeps disconnecting...sigh.

Talking about weird things. When our Vodacom signal are on the blink, then so also our ADSL connection?

I dont think it has anything to do with IS or satellites or sunspots if you're losing your connection.

Like jacobstone, I think your line could be shorting somewhere.

I have the same problem too, but just today though~
It rained plenty of time this past two weeks and only today I've been getting disconnections.

This is my 33rd session today according to the saix stat server~
It would be my line if it was just me, but some friends got the sameproblem too~ I blame Telkom! :p

I have the exact same problem too!

And the problem persists for many hours after a storm too. It is very frustrating!

Yes i have the same problem too. It rained pretty hard 2 days ago. Straight after the rain the connection was completely buggered. Now i get disconnected every 10 minutes at best.
Had 2 techs here in the last month. This time i am going to make them change the connection to the pole since it seems bloody old..

If the phone on the ADSL line sounds like Rice Crispies then it is a cable problem. The connection on the pole to which my line is connected had major problems until telkom replaced the broken cover with one that worked.

Yesterday another day of storms another 50 disconnects in 12 hours. Finally Telkom has agreed to come check the cabling. They might arrive next year to fix it tho.
