Strange USB Problems

It seems like I'm having a strange problem with my USB slots. When ever I plug a USB device into my USB slot - my PC slows down considerably, but not instantly, only upon the next reboot. I then need to reboot it again to get the speed back. It has only started doing this recently and it's very strange - there are no conflicts in the device manager and trying different USB ports make no difference.

My PC is in need for a new format, perhaps that should solve my problem.

re-install the usb drivers, and don't rely on your System Device Manager applet to find conflicts, use System Info, look up conflics - it should give you a rough map of what ports are being shared. also - in your bios, you should have a "Reset Configuration Data", set it to yes, and let the system re-sort its IRQ's. - try that.
