Hi Guys,

Hoping someone may have a idea here as I'm out...

I just got Fibre (100mbps/100mbps).

Via LAN i get about 90+ both ways, on WiFi i get 10-20 Down(it varies) and say 80-95 Up.

I'm running a 843n as the main router...

I've tried 3 difference router's Wifi, connecting to the main one (only one that connects on fibre network) with a 10cm cable, turned off all devices near it incase, Telephone + printer + Mac + even the light :crylaugh: and no difference.

This was tested on a S5, windows 10 laptop and a Mac. Changing to a 5Ghz wifi router didn't help. Note all the routers were TP-Link

Download Wifi Analyzer on your phone. There might be other competing signals in the area (not just in the room)

You would be able to see which channels are saturated/signals that might share the same space, then change the wifi on the router to use a different channel

I have done this, but did not help. Very strange that the Upload is perfectly fine though while the DL goes to hell

What is an 843n?
You mention it being the main router. What other networking kit are you using, like range extenders for example ?

Crap got it mixed up. Running a 840n as the main router (with DHCP active on it).

It's a router/ap with no modem. TP-link. I'm running a 20cm LAN cable from it to a 8 port 100mbps switch then from there I run Lan cable to a Ubiquiti Unifi AP, 10m cable, and 2 TP-Link 840ns, 10m cable and say 30m cable for the other one. and one cable thats fed into a switch in the TV room connecting to the xbox, DSTV and some media devices 5m away from the router basically.

No power line adaptors no

Sounds like quite a busy network. So basically you are running 4 wireless APs (main TL-WR840N (I assume that this is connected to the fibre termination unit), a Ubiquiti AP and 2 other TL-WR840Ns)?
Have you ensured that they are not all communicating on the same channel, and have reasonable channel separation?
Also, have you done testing using only the main TL-WR840N?

Are you sure DSTV/XBox/whatever else isn't sucking up the download speeds? I'm assuming no one is leeching off the wifi or using the wifi while you try and do these tests? Have you tried plugging everything out, just having your ubiquiti in and testing then? or testing directly on the router with the fibre?

Yes thats correct.

Ive got the TP links on channel 2, 7, 12, the unifi is on auto config so it selects the least congested channel.

All the test were done via the main WR840N

If you are sure that you have done the testing with all the other 3 APs switched off, and no-one is using the wifi with the exception of your test device, then have you tried to initialise the main WR840N to factory settings (don't save the config, start from scratch)? Or swopped out the main WR840N with one of the other 2 WR840N devices?
