Hey guys, I'm actually upgrading my pc soon and want some advice regarding a single pc streaming setup. I have a 1440p monitor, but intend on streaming at 1080p60 fps. I have already tested my internet and it will be fine. The question I have is regarding the combination of components for my rig. Do I go with the i7 9900k + rtx 2080 or the ryzen 7 2700x + 2080ti for streaming? Would the stronger gpu or cpu result in better performance?

Those are kinda overkill to stream. Lovely for gaming at1440p or possibly 4K. I use an nVidia Shield for streaming. A full PC is too much.

But is it necessary to stream at 1440P when a tv upscales to 4K as well?

If by streaming you mean you wish to broadcast your game playing to the Internet, then yes a fast CPU helps. However, I don't think the 9900k is worth it. You and the people that watch your stream will not be able to tell the difference.

Get the better GPU rather.

Overkill imo, I have a Skylake 6700 (non-k) with onboard graphics that I use for streaming netflix and viewing local media via Kodi- this includes hevc / H.265 10 bit endoded files. It handles everything I can throw at it (in 1080p, as my tv is the current limitation- but it will probably do 4k as well).

The 60FPS that the OP specifies seems to indicate that when he says streaming, he means broadcasting his game stream to the Internet. To Twitch or something.

While playing COD BLOPS 4 and recording using the AMD (I have a R9 390X) ReLive at 1440p, I didn't notice it much while in game. I do have an i7 7700K (non OC) and 32gb DDR4 with an OCZ 480gb SSD.

I Have however recently scaled down to 1080P to get a better FPS while gaming...

I think the OP needs to clarify... Is his intention to use nVidia Gamestream to local TV's or actually stream live gaming to internet? Or is he purely talking about streaming from internet (movies etc)...

As for upscaling... that would be the TV's function I would think....

Internet wise, OP would need 25mbps (going by the Netflix standards) to stream UHD. So 1080p, probably a constant 12mbps up stream.

Gamers Nexus has a video that is a little older now, where they looked at streaming performance of a quad core Intel chip (something like a 7600k or something? can't remember) vs a roughly equivalent AMD chip, like a 1600 or 1600X. They found that, while the Intel chip got higher framerates, it produced unwatchable streams. The latency of individual frames became too high or something.

But yeah, that was back then, when quad cores were the norm and not everyone had 6 cores or more. Now OPs choice is between two 8 core CPUs. So both will work fine for streaming, I just think the Intel is overpriced in this instance. Plus it is hot and power hungry.

Have to agree with @Ancalagon, Both of those would suffice, and more so with a 2080 series GPU (/droooolz)....
Would I go for the AMD over the Intel ...damn huge price difference. It is a tough call... I have not used an AMD based chipset in years, and when I did I loved them. Buuut If I had the money, I would go Intel & 2080 ...

Litearlly half the price for the CPU. DEFINITELY take the Ryzen + 2080ti. 2080ti is king, you won't notice a difference with those CPUS at 1440p -> 4k resolutions.

I have the 1600 + 1080ti and plays games brilliantly. Just get some good ram to pair with your ryzen at 2999mhz or 3200 if possible and you are good to go.

I'm talking about streaming to the internet. I already have a good pc, but it honestly really sucks at streaming. I need an overkill pc to last me 2-3 years streaming comfortably which is why I have those two combinations in mind. Now that you mention the upload speed, I usually get between 11-20mb, however, I have looked into it and 1080p60 only requires at most 7mbps, so I'll be fine in that department.

What PC do you have now?

If you want something to last, then wait for 7nm Ryzen which is coming out next year. Buy an AM4 board and good DDR4, and a cheap Ryzen CPU. Like the cheapest 4 core/8 thread Ryzen one.

i7 6700k + gtx 1070 evga sc. I bought them when the 1070 launched, its good for gaming, but this cpu is horrible for streaming, the 8700k has far superior streaming performance, but is still no match for the ryzen 8 core. I have about 50000k to blow, and with that in mind I came up with the two combinations mentioned above.

And yeah, I do intend to wait for the new zen, just hope it doesn't run too hot. I'm not too fond of my watercooler, so with my next build will go back to air cooling. The main question is really, that if I want to stream at 1080p, since the cpu is usually the bottleneck at such a resolution, is it better to take a 2080ti + slightly weaker cpu, or 2080 and stronger cpu?

I game at 1440p, and plan on downscaling for the stream.
