Streaming on Amobia

I just want to know if anyone has ever gotten streaming working on an Amobia connection. You Tube works but with a lot of buffering, Netflix/Hulu buffers for 60secs every 1 sec, XBMC 1Channel hardly ever opens streams.

I have a 4mbs Uncapped account, I can visually see the tower I connect to and when they were doing the installation they said I run at full speed.

Is it shaping on their side? Is there a way to check if it's being shaped? If I ask nicely would they turn off the video shaping?

My wife spends all day at home alone and is starting to get bored, it's only a matter of time before she cheats on me, I must give her tv to keep her entertained. My marriage is on the line.

Where are you based as I don't experience any of the issues you refer to regarding YouTube and I'm on a 2mb account. Maybe do a speedtest and trace route, to local and international and post back here.

I'm in PE. I connect to the Lady Slipper Tower...The fact that both of your 2mb lines work perfectly is a bit worrying. I mean, I can visually see the tower from where I live, the techs say I have an excellent connection.

I guess that seeing as it's just me experiencing these problems I'm going to have to give them a call to try find the problem. They're really helpful, so I don't mind making the call, just wanted to check if it's just me or if they are shaping video protocols.

Thanks for the help guys.

I think providing a trace route and speedtest for interests sake might still be a good idea.

Okay, here is the trace route and speedtest.

I just wanna ask one last thing, what VPN are you guys using to get access to Hulu? I tried the trial for UnoTelly, but my internet didn't work at all when I was on their VPN. I've now signed up for a trial with Unblock-US, it works, but still the streamiung isn't great. I will say it buffers every 15secs for 10 secs. I'm willing to pay for a DNS, but I want to start with a trial to make sure it works. Maybe it could be the DNS I'm using? But even when I'm not connected to the DNS my youtube is still reidiculously busted. And I'm on 4mb.

Anyway, here the results you wanted.

Trace route to Unlock-US DNS

Trace route to Hulu (with no DNS)

Trace route to Hulu (with Unblock-US DNS)

Speedtest (with Unblock-US DNS):

Speedtest (without DNS):

I'm calling Amobia now because I finally have some free time and will post back the results.

Up: 0.98

Speedtest.net result run just after first:

I called Amobia and told them the problems I'm having re not being ablt to go faster than 2mb and re the video streaming. I was told their video streaming is shaped, but only after you reach a certain threshold, which I do not fall under. They've logged a support ticket and will let me know when there is progress.

Sounds like they talking BS. test.Amobia.com is a speedtest direct to there servers and if you can't reach the full 4mb there then they've either overloaded the sector you on, running low on backhaul bandwidth, they have routing issues and worst case all three.

Please can you ask them what the CCQ percentages are for your connection.

Just make sure you check up on them...wrt your support ticket.

Hi MDE, thanks for all your help re this issue.

They sent a team out to my house today to check up on everything.

I had been moved to a 1mb line about 2 months ago. No one has any idea why and I've been paying for 4mb the whole time. They've bumped it back up to 4mb.

One of the techies kept pushing me to buy a grid from them. Even after taking him outside and showing him the tower I connect to, which is on the hill opposite me, about 2-3km away, he carried on telling me how my connection would be so much better with a grid. I told him I would think about it, meanwhile, there is not a chance in hell I'm buying a grid.

test.amobia.com results:

D: 3.98
U: 2.01

speedtest.net

D: 3.59
U: 1.98
Ping: 37ms

I'm on a 4mb line, so buying a grid from them would only bump me up by 0.02....It just doesn't seem worth it. Plus I reckon if I did it at a time that the tower was a little less congested it would easily hit 4mb.
