Yes, streaming means you get to watch it, as it downloads. You don't store the file on the device, you just consume the data.

On the other hand, if you download it, you can watch it when you want.

Not if you're internet is down or throttled or your VPN service has suddenly been blocked.....

If your internet is down you can't download it anyway, and if you're downloading because you might want to watch it one day you're just as likely to get throttled... I've never had my dns service go down to such a degree that I can't stream anything but I guess it could happen.

I am always downloading and have many latest series on storage in reserve to watch whenever I want.
I do not get throttled as I use a Capped Business solution.
I was talking about VPN services and refer you back to the mass hysteria when a certain VPN service got taken down by Netflix and suddenly no one could stream and watch their latest episodes.

I don't really need to download because I can stream what I want, when I want. I also like not having to worry about my HDD crashing and losing all my content, again

Would you get throttled if you streamed on a capped business solution? I'm on a uncapped telkom home account and haven't been.

Unotelly? Netflix is only one of many streaming services I use so it was more of an annoyance (at the time) than a hysteria producing incident.

Trial Getflix http://www.getflix.com.au/ or Smart DNS proxy
Install Channel4, Channel 5 or BBC iPlayer app on your device and you'll have some nice BBC UK TV shows to watch.

Can one stream something if your internet is down?
The Unotelly incident was a mere annoyance? People were going apeschit in that thread, desperately trying to find alternatives.

But hey ho...this debate has come up many times. Before feathers get ruffled...I like to download and store. I can watch what I want where I want. For me, personally, this works better than streaming. Also I do not know nearly enough of the possibilities and practical side of streaming, so I stick to what works for me.

No. Can one watch their content if their hard drive fails?

It was an annoyance but I've got 60+ streaming channels to choose from, not including local Netflix (which was always available), so the annoyance was minor.

With me the bugbear from downloading is that it's not just me consuming content. There are four of us in the house and we all have differing tastes. Now they watch what they want and I don't have to play librarian.

That said, Sonarr is still pretty handy, at least I know what fresh content is available. :)
