Strong indications of Higgs boson's existence

Higgs boson discovery all but confirmed

CERN has announced that the particle it discovered in July 2012 “is looking more and more like a Higgs Boson”, but that it must still confirm if it’s the Higgs from the Standard Model of physics.

What does this mean for the Standard Model? If it does give particles mass, surely they had tested the model with what the "ideal" Higgs Boson would be to see what it unlocked?
