Hi guys

How does one study further after graduating from a college, say Rosebank, Damelin, etc with a National Diploma in IT? The course is 3 years and it is an NQF Level 6.

Did you get any Linux training with the diploma? Everything is going cloud and its all Linux. These colleges are slow to change and usually teaching last decades technology. So maybe get some Linux training like with LPI (www.lpi.org) or if you got that already look at security related stuff or Java.

A quick look at any job survey will tell you where the money is. If you not keen on studying get involved in an open source project and get some practical experience and some code or project you can point too when you go to an interview. I can tell you that being able to demonstrate you knowledge will ensure you get a job before the other guys.

Good luck.

Poseidus, my advice is since you have the Diploma already, waste no time, start working in IT to get the experience and build your career. You can then study further part time. Don't wait, the longer you delay, the longer it will take you to work yourself into good positions.

I also say all these diplomas, degrees and certifications are simply to land you the job, after that they are not that important. With that I don't say don't do them, I just say, they are not the defining things for your career.

I fully agree. I did my certs at Boston and knew I had to get something more concrete when I graduated. I didn't go back to school full time though, but looked for a job (which ks what you should be doing). @OP, sounds like salary is not a big deal for you. May as well volunteer/ work for free (in IT) while studying. Polish your CV and put it on Pnet.

This is very good advice.
