The above photo is no Photoshop. No, it's the result of a lot of planning and even more patience.

Photographer Chris Thomas in South East Queensland, Australia used a moon tracker in a place where there was a decent amount of airplane traffic to capture the photo, using an exposure time of 1/250th of a second. I can only imagine how many nights he had to wait with his camera trained at the moon in order to capture this, but man is it stunning.

I hate to say it but that plane looks like a childs toy... If it is real then it's a damn good job.

nice pic but after looking at it and seeing what is written it seems to me that the moon is too close in relation to the plane.

+1

It is a cool picture, but the moon is HUGE :/

Maybe the moon is bigger in Australia? :D

The moon always appears larger on the horizon, thus could look larger when it has a plane in the foreground.
Now if only I lived near an airport..

nah man.. with the angle of the plane.. that shot was taken almost directly below the plane.
then it cant be a horizon shot..

I'm having my doubts about it too. To have a bright object like the moon perfectly exposed AND an object infront of the moon with a near perfect belly exposure (while the light source is above it) at 1/250sec makes me want to think it is PSed.

If the plane was at a high altitude and the photographer was zooming in on it and the moon. This is possible...

The lighting on the plane looks a bit weird if the moon was behind it though. It looks as if the main light was to the top right of the plane? or am I totally wrong?

So everyone here, all the MyBB ex-sperts disagree with the authenticity of the pic yet the original publisher Nasa and their experts got it wrong and they did not notice the fake plane before publishing?

Strange?

Just because they are experts doesn't mean they can't lie.

OK, IaP can be a bit of a chop, but all these cries of "PHOTOSHOP!!!11!1111!!eleventy!!1"? Took about three minutes to find the source of the image. Go have a read through before jumping on the "I can see from some of the pixels" bandwagon.

2 quick points
1. The image was shot in daylight, hence the clear detail on the plane.
2. Be the look of the chap's rig, he's not exactly your average "look what I snapped with my iPhone" photographer:

Yes but optical illusion forces comparisions. Thats why the moon looks bigger on the horison as we compare the rising moon with hill trees house. Thats why it looks bigger. Same rule applies here when we look at airplane.

Looking at pic under magnification.
I can see exhaust fumes streaming behind both engines. Thus conclude that the plane is under full power, thus busy taking off.

I recall watching cricket (night/day game) and the TV camera zoomed in on boats (PE or EL Bay) and moon at the same time. Same effect.
