Hi

We got a small network. One Sco Unix Openserver 5 and 4 WinXP PC's,all via switch connected.Last week we got an Internet connection (Telkom VSAT). Our Unix has got a fixed IP of 192.168.105.1 and the PC's from 192.168.105.2 upwards.

I want to plug the VSAT unit into our hub and give all the PC's internet access.

As you know this does not work.

When I change the PC's to obtain IP's they get 10.20.0.82 upwards and the internet works, but they cannot access our Unix. The VSAT=10.20.0.81.

My Temp Fix was to put 2 NIC's into a PC like this

PC's,Unix <--> switch <--> [NIC1 SyGatePC NIC2]<--> VSAT Internet

and run Sygate Office. I tell the PC's to obtain IP's and they get 192.168.102.100 upwards (I specified the range in Sygate).

NIC1 is 192.168.105.2 and NIC2 gets 10.20.0.82. This all works fine but I want to look at other options. I know a router is what most ppl will suggest.

What I think would be ideal form me is to do something on our unix,plug the VSAT straight into our switch and every PC must have access to our unix and the net. I think the VSAT unit has some routing capabilities but cannot get the password from anyone. (I can telnet to it)

What can be done on the unix server to make it work ? add route ? some kind of alias ? change unix IP?

I hope I explained it clearly.

Thanks

I'm not too sure about the UNIX shell, but I know on linux you have to issue a ROUTE command as well as possibly setting up some NAT in your IPTABLES... This is all I had to do on my side. You dont need to change the Unix IP because this IP is what your internal boxes see that machine as. Simply lookup the Route command and hopefully this is all you really need.

I aware of the route command. I'm just not sure how to use it.
