One of my clients is trying to connect to GPRS via his notebook and a usb bluetooth device.

The phone starts to dial and gets to the "verify username and password" screen on the notebook but then the phone displays the message "Subscribe to GPRS first" and the connection fails.

I tried dialing *99# and *99***#1 .

He gan navigate to WAP sites on his phone using GPRS no problem. I was also Able to connect from his notebook via the same bluetooth device and my i-mate to MTN.

I suspect that it could be something with the APN that the phone uses but I don't know the nokia phones well enough to check this.

Any help whould be appreciated.

The username and password must be blank, also confirm services on the vodacom for me website or by dialling 111

Otherwise click here to confirm settings

Best bet would be to call 155.

They can trace the whole process on-line and can also help you with the settings.

make sure there are no EXTRA INITIALISATION thingies on your dialup connection, sometimes there is an AT string that specifies the APN,
also on the phone itself, there should be a "modem" section, in here your specify which gprs profile to use when the phone is being used as a modem, it is seperate to the browser in the phone hence the phone could browse and the pc not!

Sortof echoing what v3g said...

"Subscribe to GPRS first" - would that not indicate that the sim card has not been Data Provisioned? - a call & request to 082155 would definitely resolve that problem...

Apn

Go to settings, then choose connectivity, Select GPRS, select gprs modem settings, edit active access point, edit access point type in "internet" that should sort out your problem.

Thank you all for your help. Setting the access point to "internet" on the phone's GPRS Modem settings did the trick.

Depends on what you want to do - access point for Virgin is "vdata".
