Hi Guys,

I have an additional pc to play around with, I'm looking to use it as a server and add a firewall onto it.

I was looking at Ubuntu Desktop or Ubuntu Server? With Smoothwall,.

I'm wanting to be able to set up two connections when nessary, throttle pc's on the network and have one account handling local and another international.

Any guru's care to share some advice?

Any modern Linux distro will do what you want - it just depends on what sort of interface you want to work with.
All the routing and firewalling can be done from console after a bit of man page reading.

Have a look at IPCop @ ipcop.org. I have used it before in my test enviroment and liked it. I am setting up my live Firewall with IPCop this weekend.

I guess I'll have to try them all out. Ubuntu first though ;o) Not sure to go with server or desktop though.

regarding distro's, i am a gentoo fan... one of my main reasons for recommending gentoo is because of the great user community (forums).

i've done some throttling but only via squid.

here is a thread regarding 2 simultanious adsl connections (think it is windows based). one local, one international.
