Super-slow international speeds - what's going on?

Hi there people of the rainbow nation :D

Ok so this is the situation:
I have a relatively new 2mb line.
I speedtest locally, and I crack like 1-1.5mbps, which is fine, I think.
But when I select any international server, I consistently get close to 0.2mbps per second. This is pretty ***.
I've tried with an OpenWeb Gamers King account (basically standard uncapped), as well a free afrihost capped account. The results are relatively similar.

I didn't notice anyone talking about big international bandwidth hits, so what is going on here? With downloads this slow, my life is in danger.

I've been experiencing slow speeds all round for the past day or two in Sea Point - on both WebAfrica and GConnect.

A friend of mine also having issues, he's in Greenpoint. Get's packet loss on the line, line stats and traceroutes look fine though but speeds die horribly. Now he has the task of convincing Telkom something is wrong with it.

Glad to hear someone else is fighting the good fight :D

Now if only I could change some of my broadband survey answers... :|

Am sure you guys know this but if not then it instills a chance of getting the issue resolved :)

This was posted by ranger (unofficial Telkom Rep) among the others lurking who have helped more than i can say. The Ti uncapped thread should show just how much aswell.

So, for any of the issues I have been looking at for users here, please:
1)Send an email to support@telkomsa.net. You should receive an auto-reply with a ticket number. Please include your internet username, the telephone number of the ADSL line you are using, and sufficient technical detail (the better the quality of the information, the better your chances of a quick resolution), e.g. traceroute, URL of a speedtest result indicating the problem etc.
2)If you don't have a resolution within 2 business days, or if it is really urgent, include the ticket number from (1) in a message to @TelkomZA on twitter or TelkomZA on Facebook

Bolded bit would only apply if you a Ti user so just mention who your iSP is with followed by the rest of the info.

Worth giving it a shot and post here for any results.

Am just a regular ADSL user and have no affiliation with Telkom fyi.

I've had good feedback from the Facebook page. At least there is somebody there that can answer basic questions.

I am in Durban and have been noticing some really poor international speeds over the past couple of days - I am on a WebAfrica capped account using a 6mb line. Effing useless today.

I'm on MWEB 1MB premium uncapped and can't get into Facebook, google or anything from about 8 this morning.

I ran a tracert and the results are pretty bad:

Had to switch to Afrihost account now. No problems there it seems.

Web Africa apparently unaware of any network issues.

This has now begun affecting my Afrihost account. So much for their non-reliance on Seasom. What a crock...

Weird...my line was flying over the weekend, and now its dropped back to 1/10th of the speed. Could it really be correlated with weekends vs weekdays?

My Axxess uncapped account has been fine up until tonight. HTTP traffic is fine, but torrent traffic is dead. Seems they're shaping torrent traffic...

Sad to say the same thing is happening on Web Africa. I finished up my Afrihost cap a few days ago. Torrent download on WA is running at no more than 15kbps - and that's only sometimes. Most of the time its below 5kbps.
