South Africa's Internet speeds and prices versus the world

Average Internet speeds in South Africa have increased substantially in the past year, but prices have also surged relative to other countries.

That is according to the latest Digital Quality of Life (DQL) Index compiled by Surfshark.

So prices are up but costs are down....and speeds basically remained the same, yup South African capitalism and mismanagement is at it again.

Don't get me started on my pet-hate topic; the extremely poor to nonexistent internet services in rural areas.
Even major national roads have substantial gaps in cellular coverage, and once you leave the wide tar strip the signals rapidly dwindle to nothing. And let's not mention the non-existence of fibre in hundreds of towns.

Don't get me started on my pet-hate topic; the extremely poor to nonexistent internet services in rural areas.

Compared to countries like the U.S. we are actually an extremely population dense country where rollout is easy. This can even subsidise the rural platteland areas and unless they literally have to bring a 100km fibre line there's no reason not to have fibre access. I'd even say there's no excuse for every single inch of this country not having fibre access by now.

Then there's the issue of basic access for R200-300 not being offered to everyone.
