would it be a wise move to sell my Sony 6.2 A/V Component system and by this Onkyo HT-S5405B system?

I am not an audio fundi as yet, but from my limited research the set beats the usual Sony/Samsung/LG sets.

And from the sound I have heard from it thus far, I would agree.

Quick question guys. As this is related I'm posting it in this thread.

Where can you get reasonably priced rear speaker mounts and front speaker stands from...? Thoughts...?

I need some help here. I have a Sony 6.2 surround sound system and its loud but not really that loud.

I am going to be building a new ht setup early next year so starting do some research. I want to have some good stuff so dont mind buying the components, one at a time.

Has anyone had any experience with the Marantz SR7005. Is it going to be louder than the Sony. Will it be ok with the existing Sony speakers (for now). Any other amp in that price range (or cheaper lol) that you think is better.

Also, whats the best price anyone seen this at.

By the way, I am not really an audophile. Just like my movies LOUD. So perhaps I can get away with something cheaper and louder. lol.

Which Sony?
ES line?

IMO a Marantz - especially the 7xxx - is a league above the Sony. In both loudness and quality.

It'll work with the existing speakers for now - but it'll hardly be louder with the current speakers

It s a sony ht-ddw1500 (I think i may be the first 6.2 system)

The Marantz is way better true but is there anything similar. I have just read about the Pioneer SC-LX83 and now I am more confused. Then there is Okyno and Yamaha ranges.

Also any speaker sets you would recommend. Nothing too pricy. Less than 10K for speakers. B & W or JBL or something particular but not sure that these can be had at that price.

Look at an Onkyo in the price?

Speakers I'm not sure what the pricing is of various set's any more - so can't really help.

Brands that were pretty good a while ago were KEF, Monitor Audio, B&W ... and if you're looking at loudness, what about Polk? They usually go Onkyo

Went to a place in Durbanville yesterday, e-piphany, and tested the Polkaudio entry set.
Very nice looking, sound quality is great for the price.

Polk Audio TSi-300 (R3400)
Polk Audio CS-10 (R1490)
Polk Audio TSi-100 (R1700) - Total: R6590 (special at e-piphany)

The 2 'better' fronts you can get the TSi-400's for R4700

If you are in CPT area they are in High Street, Durbanville (parallel to Durban road)

They have a nice dark, sound proof TEST room where you can test anything. They also sell HD 3D Projectors, TV's etc.

AVSA magazine still have wonderful classified ads. Picked up a pair of Quad ESL9089's for R 12k. Also worth a visit is AV Forums, not so much the classifieds but the dealer specials, see http://www.avforums.co.za/index.php?board=16.0. Just got a new Kef IQ6i centre speaker for R 2.2k. This unit is $499 in the US

+1

I picked R50,000.00+ audio for R12,000.00 and my own set of speakers.

Though for stands/mounts - they'll generally have the more expensive branded type, if you find them. I always thought Hi Fi Corp did the smaller stands? Otherwise flea markets?

no posts in 6 months, lets get back on track.

For those wanting to spend between 2 and 3 grand, these are old range but worth it for entry level receivers.
https://www.retailshop.co.za/products-comparison.php?compare_product_list=337|338|

Also the old range but the Sony ES range is awesome from what I believe.
http://www.catsdigital.co.za/sony-str-da3500es-av-receiver-black-.html

I know this is the bargain box but I need some advice. I have one of the sony STR-K1500 systems and would like to replace the receiver. Its time for a new one . I would like it to do HDMI audio processing but not a deal breaker . Want to plug in HP Proliant/XBMC via HDMI. And also best suited for that speaker set. Budget about R4K if possible.
Any suggestions appreciated
