It doesn't sound as vibrant when you try to tweak the equaliser settings manually.

Agreed, tried that without success.

In the Bass Setting (under Speaker Setup), I have Subwoofer Mode set to LFE+Main, with a LPF value of 80Hz. What this means is that any frequency below 80Hz will be sent to the sub, even in normal stereo sound. My front stereo speakers can handle low frequencies though, that's why I have it set to this. Since you have smaller speakers that may distort at low frequencies, you may want to increase it to anything between 100Hz to 150Hz, depending on what sounds best for you.

Thanks. Trying that now.

Must say, I'm experiencing a little post purchase dissonance at the mo.

As much as I like the smaller speaker profile of the Sony's and now the Jamo's, it seems when it comes to low end speakers bigger is better. These Jamo's are sounding very tinny. They look bloody awesome though.

I suppose I also need to give them a chance to break in.

Hey man, would you mind letting me know if that dion wired card is like a credit card where you pay off interest OR if it's like an Edgars card where you pay your goodies off interest free!

Thanks ;)

Hey bro, its an rcs card. interest isn't that bad at all hey.

Tx for this info guys, im also gonna try all the tweaking and settings so the speakers will sound great. Im already enjoying my new system compared to my Creative 2.1 35watt. Its awsome, glad I got it, connected to my pc via optical, just need a new sound card to get the true dd/dts on my games and movies. already sounds great

Ja, I must say the more I tweak and fiddle the better it's beginning to sound. Just pumped out some U2 live at the Rose Bowl and it sounds reasonably good. Also Saving Private Ryan opening scene and the surround sound is very evident and most effective!!

The problem in life in general is managing expectations. I keep telling Dolby, learn to manage expectations and more often that not you won't be disappointed.

I got some Jamo's in the TV room paired with a Yamaha amp and they pump. I was expecting a bit too much from these babies perhaps. Nonetheless they beginning to break in and are sounding better.

Either that or I'm expecting them to sound sh it everytime I turn it on :)

sand_man, Im assuming you went and bought that combo deal from Dion Wired? this

From your reaction you either 1. are not impressed 2. or you an audiophile and expect too much :p

If you had to compare this to one of those all-in-one systems from game, like a samsung blue-ray+amp+5.1 for R3000

Does your purchase sound that much better? Or do you think you should have saved your money for something better?

I think my expectations were a bit too high. Add to that setting up a system these days isn't just a plug and play operation. There is a multitude of potential settings and configurations to consider and as I slowly plough through them the overall picture is gaining more colour and clarity.

I'm not a fan of those all in one combos, not at all!!! Been there and I hated it!! I prefer the component route.

I am perhaps a bit critical of the small speaker option vs the medium to big speaker option.

It was the online combo deal for R5500 yes. Cannot argue with the value but it's performing about 12%-15% below expectations. Better than the 45%-50% when I initially switched it on for the 1st time... :p

and now I see the special is no longer.... gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay :erm:

edit : thanks for the info, I appreciate it. I wonder if there is someone in Cape town that I can come have a listen and see what kind of quality/loudness you get from that setup. Though the special is over, I still would like to look for something to buy towards the end of the year, if not sooner.

Im simply not impressed with these all-in-one setups (well from what I have seen/heard)

I just want something that is gonna have decent levels all-round, be able to turn it up a bit, and the bass must be good quality!! I wanna get a boner from the bass!! lol :D

Lol I told you guys, rather get their usual special with the Jamo S416HCS. But I suppose for a bedroom that's not really an option.

sand_man: think of it this way - if you decide one day that the speakers are kak and in need of an upgrade, then at least you still have an awesome receiver :)

techead: Go for the combo with the S416HCS. Once you get the settings right, your neighbours will get a boner from the bass :p

yeah I was referring to the amp+speaker combo. Oh well...

Just found out that my mate can source audio stuff. Apparently Pioneer is pretty good?

There's nothing wrong with the Pioneer. It has a higher power output (irrelevant unless you intend on increasing your volume level to above -15dB, which you won't, trust me). Other than that they're pretty much the same.

In this case it's pretty much a choice between a top of the range Corolla (Pioneer), or an entry level 3-series (Marantz). Yes yes I know, it's another car analogy :p
