Another thing to consider is the bi-wiring connectors on the BX2's. The Marantz only has one set of inputs per speaker....

starting to look like more hassle than its worth? Why dont you at least get in touch with the guy and see if he is prepared to EFT your money back for the BX2's

sure you could find some floor standers for that price anyway?

Indeed.

Bi-wiring not an issue though.

F uck I'm hating my Jamo's, seriously they officially crap!!!

I'm talking about these...

Too small to make an impression other than aesthetically, they are f ucking beautiful but LACK SUBSTANCE!!! I hate the sound they emit, tiny and puny!!!!

Given them a good couple of months to settle and for them to grow on me but it aint happening!!

When I was in Dion Wired a few weeks ago to get a new TV, they were also trying so hard to flog those to me. Didn't know much about them but glad I didn't cave :p

Keep the BX2's, see how the center speaker goes. If you don't like it just go 2.1 for now.
Why the worry about bi-wiring? Did you mean the marantz only has 1 set of outputs? There's no *need* to bi wire them, that's what the connector between the binding posts is for :p
Also doesn't matter that your sub is sony. As far as timbre matching goes it only really applies to the fronts and the center so that when the sound pans across it doesn't change drastically because the speakers are different. I guess it would be a better match than using whatever came with the jamo kit.

Good stuff!! That's what I like to hear!! Yeah, I'm confident this setup will significantly out perform the Jamo's bundled with the amp. The fundamental components are solid IE Marantz amp, BX2's and S60.

Glad to hear it man, really good news indeed! :D

I take the different ratings didn't cause an issue then?

Doesn't seem to have, no.

I have had to tweak and fiddle though to get the sort of performance output I expect. I've created a "false economy" by boosting digital source output to 12db. I've also increased each speakers output levels to around 5db for the fronts and 7db for the rears. The centre speaker, Jamo S60 seems to require a lot more effort to get parity out of it. I've set it to 8db!!

The Dynamic volume setting caused me a lot of consternation too. With it set to off the net volume dropped about 70%!! Of course the surround effect was accentuated as Dynamic Volume was not interfering with outgoing levels but the net effect was a somewhat muted centre speaker and then rapturous audio coming from front and rear. Setting Dynamic Volume to high had the opposite effect with a distinct sound coming from centre speaker but artificially muted sound coming from front and rear!!!! I settled on light but haven't tested this setting extensively to know the net effect it will have (light happens to be Mike's suggested setting for Dynamic Volume too).

I've also manually altered the speaker distance settings to get what I perceive to be a better result from my perspective in my favourite seat in the room.

So a lot of fiddling was required and at one stage I was experiencing that all too familiar sinking feeling, thinking my impulsive nature was once again going to cost me but these Monitor Audio BX2's are pretty sensational!! Not sure where the seller got them but they were in a factory sealed box so brand new and at R2750 about 30% below recommended retail price!!

EDIT: I don't often listen to music in the room but what actually motivated me to dump the Jamo's I had connected before was music. I just got a new Mede8er 1000X3D and was streaming music over the local network. It dawned on me then just how s hitty these Jamo's are. The BX2's by contrast sound extraordinary and seem tailor made for music, any type at any volume, clean, accurate, precise, jazz, metal, pop, rock or classic...

hi guys

im new to the terrifying world of HTS, and not sure what sort of AMP woudl be a good starting point to slowly build up an HTS system, piece by piece. by budget is a measly R3k-R5k. where should i start ? what should i avoid ?

With that budget I'd keep an eye out for second hand deals and build a 2.0 system initially. About 1.5 to 2.5 on speakers and the rest on the amp.

Also take a look at AVForums.co.za

They have a classifieds section with many a bargain to be had.

I just recently purchased a pair of Monitor Audio BX2's for R2750-00, brand new in a sealed box. They retail for around R3.5k.

Also a 2nd hand S60 Jamo centre speaker for R500.
