Depends on what you want. If you want something that will work out of the box and have no intention of upgrading the speakers then that Sony isn't too bad. If you want to start building a top shelf system, starting with a decent amp, then go with the Onkyo.
I wouldn't touch it, but whatever works for you :D What's your budget?

haha no no ..no budget as yet but dont want to go crazy now

but yeah not sure the brand but was thinking it could be much better than others at that price
Seems decent for the price
Saw it at dion first for 3500, then last week it was 1999 in store and 1900 online. Very little info about it online tho. But it's probably better than the samsung and lg ones

saw it as well for 1999

but didnt test it tho and at 300w i doubt its loud tho

Not the brand, more the lack of online presence and support. If something goes wrong, there should be enough info available to fix it. Or you should at least be able to ask on a forum and get reasonable responses. With the less popular brands, you're pretty much stuck on your own.

You mentioned R3k-R5k for an AMP or did I mis-understand and was that for a complete setup?

You need to be patient and invest a decent amount of money and get yourself something that is not only relevant for the next 3-4 years but is going to give you the sort of performance you'll never tire with.

With that in mind I would recommend a quality 2nd hand amp off Gumtree perhaps. Marantz seems to be the flavour of the month. Something like this.

A good quality amp is a good place to start.

This amp would be a great place to start, add a pair of these beauts to the equation and you well on your way. Yes you already R6.6k in but quality components.

Meh, if only I could find such a deal for a good sub. Not really enjoying the thought of dropping R10k on something that can actually compliment the rest of my speakers.
