So I'm on the market for a new car and I've decided I want to get an SUV. The problem is up until I saw the Kia Sportage I thought most SUVs were ugly (Hummer) and didn't really pay much attention to them. So I don't know what I need to look for, what else is available on the market that looks as good as the Sportage or what gimmicks I need to avoid.

The minimum I need is:
Automatic
Diesel
Park Assist
Navigation system would be nice, but not absolutely necessary

Any recommendations?

What's your budget?

New Hyundai Tuscon is almost here, and looks very nice.

Thanks for the recommendations. I like the Hyundai, but not the Nissan Qashqai. This is going to sound silly, but I don't like the look of the front from the windscreen down to the bonnet. Maybe it's the picture I'm looking at.

I don't want to go beyound R430k. The Hyundai Tuscon looks nice, but not sure if it will fit into my budget if it's so new.

Is there a website where a person could compare different cars like with cellphones?

Apparently Opel is bringing out a SUV, called the Mokka if memory serves me right, will probably be able to buy two of those at your price range haha

Avoid the built-in navigation systems - their software & map updates are horrendously expensive - you are better off with a stand-alone Garmin GPS, which comes with Lifetime Free Map Updates.

Their new 2015 model range includes the nuvi 57LM and 67LM - which include optional Garmin BC-30 Wireless Backup Camera compatibility.

Also available is a new Premium model, the nuviCam LMTHD, which features a built-in front dash-cam, as well as optional Garmin BC-30 Wireless Backup Camera compatibility as well.

The Tuscon will be replacing the ix35 which starts at R380k
Pretty sure the Tuscon won't cost that much more.

:( Can't afford this from R541k. I really love their website out of all the car manufacturers I've visited so far.

Freelander 2, lots of bargains on these right now since the Discovery Sport has replaced it.
