Harsh of you to acknowledge yourself as an inbred from his perspective, but okay.

Careful now, I think he's one of those furballs, you wouldn't want one of them sneaking up on you in the night?

So... AC: Shadows. This is Ubi's claim:

Day 1:

This is a claim that they have doubled down on, emphasizing that it is actual players playing the game.

Now, two days later, they claim:

2 MILLION PLAYERS!

We’re thrilled to celebrate this incredible milestone! Assassin's Creed Shadows has now surpassed the launches of AC Origins and Odyssey. Thank you for joining the journey in Feudal Japan!

The bulk would be subscription services, but Ubi made a point that these numbers are actual players. We all know that Ubi is promoting subs above a game, or rather, a license to use one-time purchase. The investors will be leaning into that.

From the limited data available in regard to Steam, that is predictive, it is estimated that between 180-300k copies have been sold on Steam. More or less than around 240k copies sold on Steam. This data isn't accurate. The rest would be other game stores, subs, and consoles.

On Steam, most players are Chinese (30%), then Americans (20%), and they lead by quite the margin, and then Russians (5%). All rounded estimations.

This is also a best-case analysis. Others I have looked at show lower numbers, but they don't have the same tracking intervals, nor the same data points.

From comparing all AC games that were released on Steam, Shadows is tracking to have the most concurrent players. Not all AC games had the same release cycle on Steam. It is hard to be comparative.

The current PlayStation log shows Shadows to be the second most popular game.

I doubt Ubi is lying about their numbers. I guess they have beaten the criticism.

How well the game is doing in Japan, well, that is another matter.

Would be interested to see how well the other AC games did in Japan by comparison.

Hard to say, it's not like the game is doing badly in Japan. Just not as good as it is in other nations. From Steam's own Top Sellers page, the only regions that are not in the top 2 are Japan and Taiwan:

Japan:

Yesterday, BLEACH was #3.

And Taiwan:

This data does change at intervals, but the game is consistently trending in position #1 and #2 in all other regions. Tomorrow, it could not look the same, as already pointed out with BLEACH.

I would also assume that most Japanese players are playing on PlayStation.

EDIT: I didn't add Korea; it is in position #5 on Steam.

This is the Japan PlayStation page:

The game is doing well. I love the Atelier series.

I think it won against cancel culture. Whoever is trying to paint it otherwise is playing dirty with deceit.

Unfortunately for Ubi a middling reception for the game isnt enough and with Tencent deal now going ahead is clear that the controversies around Shadows certainly hasn't helped them in any way, shape or form.

Wtf is this thread

A place where you can attribute anything you don't like about a game to 'wokeness', welcome and have fun!

Would be interested to see how well the other AC games did in Japan by comparison.

According to Famitsu sales (which importantly only tracks physical) it did worse than any other AC release. It would seem they outright cannot be arsed about it:

5. [PS5] Assassin's Creed Shadows – 17,701 / NEW

For reference, Ghost of Tsushima sold 222k during its launch week, and the more recent, Rise of the Ronin, sold 64k.

Now it is important to note that digital is not tracked in these numbers, and over the last couple of years digital has become increasingly popular. This is also only on PS5.

Here are the numbers for other ACs in Japan, stolen from another forum so haven't verified, but :

TitleFirst WeekLTD
AC: Origins
53,716
98,951
AC: Odyssey
50,173
87,523
AC: Valhalla (PS4)
45,055
61,345
AC: Mirage
20,407
25,212

2nd behind Valhalla from other forums
Where is the number of copies sold
Ubi punting another big claim.

There is no reason to doubt them, but they made it very public that the game won't be compared to Valhalla (due to Covid reasons), so I guess 2nd highest Day 1 sales is a comparison to Odyssey.
This include Ubisoft+ subscriptions .

Buy a month for around R350 and cancel after 1 month , save yourself around a R1000 of outright buying the game

Where is the number of copies sold

Why does it matter? Nobody ever asks how many copies Xbox Games are selling, as it is with EA Play.

This include Ubisoft+ subscriptions .

Yes, and you can subscribe to it through most other existing gaming services. See:

Yes, and why buy the game when you can sub? It is the same argument most people make with Xbox Game Pass.

This point that AC: Shadows isn't selling is null and void. Ubi has since the late 2010 already pushed their 'users' towards subscriptions.

Good luck seeing accurate sales records at this time, more so with digital sales. The game's success will be revealed in its reports.

Tencent has long been looking to acquire its IPs. At least they did it now by establishing a subsidiary that has the right to some IP. Though some things are unclear as to who owns what and what is happening to current licensing agreements. Ubi as an entity will remain.

It matters because they throw around numbers like "three million"...

Honestly if it didn't matter then surely they, and you, wouldn't care either. Yet here were are with the numbers announced as if we should care but dare we actually question or comment on those numbers.
AC: Shadows isn't selling is null and void
Null and void? Sales would mean a lot more than "engagements" via a subscription service, surely? Stating that they're null and void just sounds like a defense for a company that you don't work for and probably don't actually care for. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure many if not most of us loved their original games, but AC: Shadows doesn't feel like something to die at the front-line for.

As a silly aside I read something that showed that fewer than 6.5% had even completed chapter 2 or something for an achievement in the game. Nothing special, just get "this far" in the game for a "ding" I guess and yet less than 6.5% of "engaged" gamers had bothered.
