Was thinking...

What would happen if Swembroek van Schalkwyk comes knocking on the DA's door again?

Would they let him in?

I think if that happened all the white voters would run off a cliff like lemmings.

Old Douglas is not a good choice either.

Mmmmm ...... $ 100 000.00

Oh please anyone but Gibons, That would be the same Gibons that doesn't believe in private property. No thanks....

I don't know a single person who should take over, yet another failure from the DA. THe public should be prepared and the party should be organised.

@ kingrob: I think you're confused - it's kortbroek van Schalkwyk, and Valli "swembroek" Moosa :D

And GavinMannion, agreed, Gibbons would be a disasterous step backwards.

The DA should really take the opportunity that electing a new leader provides, to reflect on their tactics. IMHO, their policies come across as a reflection of the ANC's: ANC says "yes", DA says "no"; ANC says "left", DA says "right" etc. Yes, I realise that they're in opposition but that doesn't mean that you have to literally oppose the ruling party on everything.

I think that there is a ceiling of voter support that they can reach with this approach, and I think that they're pretty close to that.

Does anyone have a first name?

Yes, I think most people do. :D

In this case his first name is Douglas. Doh - his surname is Gibson, not Gibbons. Couldn't find any info on him on the DA website, beyond the fact that he is DA's chief whip (== ANC's Mbulelo Goniwe), but here is a picture (he is the one in the hat.)

I thought they were confusing him with a marvel comic villan...

LOL, no chance of that happening kingrob as he's already the Environmental Minister and Vali Moosa is in the political wilderness I think [probably hired by the ANC though].

Ryan Coetzee is a probably a highly-favoured candidate.
