You have no data when roaming on other networks, so depends on where you live. Is terrible when driving outside main areas, especially when trying to use iPhone as a satnav.

Why not get a prepaid sim and try that for a week or 2?
That way you can find out if it will work for you, in the areas were you move around during the day...

No catches. Generally found cell to b good. Buy a prepaid card and check signal in your area. Easy to port from prepaid to cellc. call cellc direct and they will sort it out.

Not true. Wife and 2 children went from Vodascum to CellC and had data when outside CellC coverage during December holidays. try the prepaid for a while. Our reception and call quality improved a 1000x when moving from voda to cellc. No more dropped calls etc... Also much cheaper.

Well after driving through to Lephalale from Pretoria, then to PE, Mossel Bay, Cape Town and then back in December/January, I assure you that there was no data roaming on Vodacom. Could only make calls. I see Cell C has just recently signed a 3G roaming agreement with Vodacom, maybe all sim cards aren't provisioned yet. We had 2 Pay as you Go sims on Cell C, neither had data when our Vodacom sim did.

So.....true.

I was looking at this contract for the iPhone 5 from cell c, and noticed it was far better than the other carriers, but i have a few questions about Cell c
1. can i use my old mtn number on a new cell c contract?
2. Is cell c's network good?
3. are there any catches on this contract ; http://www.cellc.co.za/cell-phone-d...b-on-straight-up-200?t=hot#link_content_tab_2

Hi,

1. Yes you can use your old MTN number on a new cellc contract.
2. Refer to our coverage and check out your area http://www.cellc.co.za/network-coverage-map as suggested in the forum get yourself a prepaid card and put the network to the test.
3. The is no catch at all, call it value added service.

Across the board Cell C is really bad. Their strategy is to be cheap and that includes the network and service.

ATTN: Mr Alan Knott-Craig

Dear Alan, from the news reports, it seems Cell C are going aggressively after market share by reducing prices. While this may be a short term solution, I offer you some advice as a very frustrated customer and look forward to the day my contract comes to an end so I can move to another operator. Nobody can claim to know more about building an operator than you however decent customer satisfaction will ensure loyalty, stickiness and an evangelist for Cell C. This is clearly lacking at Cell C. I have been to your Branch in Kennilworth Centre, Cape Town almost 15 times and pushed from branch to Call Centre. I pay for a service and I want it to work, simple. My BB service has not worked properly in over 6 months and currently my phone is being attended to by your service centre for the last two weeks with no news on when it will be fixed. Everybody has a different solution to the problem and continually removing and inserting my SIM card has caused the SIM socket to break.

I have worked for multinationals for over 20 years and customer satisfaction is key to repeat business but Cell C clearly dont grasp this. Everybody I know work with MTN or Vodacom and have nothing but good things to say.

I have probably highlighted about 3 areas for signifcant improvement, customer service/care, knowledge and process.

I'm hoping that the remaining 8 months of my contract can become a pleasure from the nightmare its been.

Regards
Ishmael

Advice... don't port to CellC. There have been many many complaints here and on hellopeter about us all having reception and simultaneously having no data connection whatsoever. Save yourself a lot of frustration and stick to MTN or port to Voda. Prices are great sure, but is it worth paying for a service you're not getting? I'm porting to Voda this weekend. I can't handle it anymore.

Cell C's data speeds are going down the drain. Sometimes slower than a 56k modem with full signal strength. After using 8tas 60GB+60GB it's like going back 5 years.

I was reading around this forum about Cell C users who get full Cell C signal but no internet access and really ridiculous speeds. Why don't you buy a Cell C sim card and see if it meets your expectations for data and voice?

In my situation, all mobile networks (Voda, MTN, Cell C, 8ta) have really crappy reception. I was using Vodacom, so I decided to move to Cell C. Figured I'd rather paying the cheapest fees and crappy service, than to pay really expensive fees for crappy service.
