Switching off analogue TV signal outright risks 'destroying' SABC

That is the real issue here, once they rolled out the top boxes and you are not able to receive the signal you should not be required to pay.

But then the people that received the topboxes for free or reduced costs, will they pay for the service once the first bill comes along?
User pays, you want it, you have to pay for it. If nobody want to pay for it, then let it die. It means nobody truly wants it.

The same old rubbish coming out of DoC.
1. You need a satellite-based STB in areas where there is NO terrestrial coverage. Such as the SKA area where all terrestrial transmissions have already been terminated.
2. In areas where there is terrestrial coverage, you only need an STB IF you want to still use an older analogue TV.
3. ALL the Minister has to do for the market that is NOT subsidised is to allow ALL existing digital TVs to be equipped with a suitable tuner! nothing more is needed, Simple, clean solution which can be literally done overnight.
The rest of her so-called speech is just more of the rhetoric and Bullschit we have heard for 10 years or more.

Not good enough. The SKA is such a sensitive setup - all transmitters above 1kw or so must be switched off for 500+Km around it. Capetown, Port Elizabeth, Bloemfontein... The harmonics of a nearby, powerful transmitter in the Mhz range, will render the SKA observations meaninglessness. #LiveWithIt

You think that SKA would be operational if there was interference?

So were you part of the original evaluation team who determined what was required? Have you got copies of the SKA area maps and the extended maps? Have you read the SKA ACT? Are you aware of the changes that Sentech would implement in line with the SKA roll-out? Did you attend any of the evaluation conferences etc?

looking forward to your answer.

If he keeps it up I am going to bury him in his own Bullschit. But let us see IF he has the info and credentials to back up his claims. Then those of us the do actually know what is going on can respond.
In the meantime, the current status quo requires that analogue transmissions cease ASAP and the move could be done very simply if only the DoC would get out of its rather stupid position it now finds itself in.
