System cleaners/tune-ups

Just a question, do any of you guys use system mechanic, ccleaner, tune-up utilities etc? Does these really work?

I use CCleaner. Works good. Just make sure you select the correct settings.

The reason why im asking is I use ccleaner, then I ran a system mechanic check up (got it from the dell site) and it said I have +-1200 invalid registry entries. This sounds like bs to me :erm:

does these tools really speed your system up that much?

They definitely do help, and noticing the speed difference would depend on what you use the PC for, and how you use it...

I use "Glary Utilities" and it works great!

Minimal improvement, if any and for the risk of these tools breaking your system, it's just not worth it. I've used many and while they have some good tools/utilities, be very careful of what you are doing, especially if it's registry related. I messed up my laptop recently trying a very popular tool/utility but luckily I managed to restore it back to its operational state. There are reviews on the net about these tools and just about all that I've read indicates that there is minimal improvement, if any and it's just not worth the risk.

I found that if you get a very "tweakable" one, EG Glary Utils, and tweak what is affected by it, it can make a small, but notable change without stuffing everything up...

Never do a registry defrag. That will mes sup your hole pc. I tried it, then i had to reload my pc

I Use CCleaner and defraggler, works well for me. I also use the registry cleaner on CC, hasn't given me any trouble yet.

I use TuneUp Utilities 2012.

Noticeable difference in bootup times, helps you clean out all the crap that wants to load at startup, deletes all old Windows backups for System Restore (last delete was 12GB!) & the rest I put it just on auto maintenance. Have been running it on Windows XP, Windows Vista and now on Windows 7.

Never ever had a problem with it, or notice it causing problems with my pc.

Ive been using ccleaner for a couple of years,and it works a treat.if i didnt use it i probably would have formatted and re-installed windows again by now.

CCleaner and Advancad System Care (premium) are ftw. I haven't formatted in like ages myself. Yet the PC is full of nonsense and is almost lightning fast as if it's new.

I strongly disagree.

Have used TuneUp now for years and never had any problems on Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7.

Instead I got a really fast and responsive pc.

The ones I've seen are either nagware, install a link u don't want or are unnecessary because Windows can do it.

I know you can do most tuning for Windows in group policy, or some other place, but Tune Up just lists everything in front of you and then you can choose what you'd like to do. Like annoying startup programs, even ones that doesn't show up in msconfig. Change time before checkdisk starts a scan, modify UAC behaviour, see your real Windows serial number, see system info....change icons, change bootscreen, etc. The list goes on and on.

Hi, yes they do work. I started on System Mechanic 12 years or more ago, which cleared 100's on first use, but they no longer have a South African office. I since used TuneUp Utilities and upgraded every three or four years. It's good and I praised it on Twitter for many years, but am presently searching for another. The reason being that they now require that you buy a copy every year along with AVG internet antivirus.
That's not my cup of tea because during the many years of paying for AVG alone, and for the seven years since, I've never had a virus, so it was simply money down the drain.
If you hear of a good registry cleaner in SA, minus antivirus, please advise. (Please, Not TuneUp)

I've used WinTools.net Pro for years, very powerful software and it has an excellent registry cleaner, and searcher. Very handy for finding and cleaning viruses /malware. Basically CCleaner on steroids.
