I'd recommend these tablets.... Although you need to crush them first and they may be over your price bracket.

Doesn't do too badly, battery seems to last most of the day, runs all the things my son runs perfectly, which are games, youtube, netflix, showmax and DSTV now.

A friend got this for her 8yo for Xmas last year:

She said she was very impressed by it and said it is fast and responsive, even faster than her Samsung tablet.

Hi all,

So i need a decent tablet for the kids

Last tab they smashed the screen but they older now

i was looking at this https://www.takealot.com/kindle-fire-7-16gb-kids-edition-tablet-with-blue-cover/PLID53867521

Is this decent

main use would be for some games and watching YT and for educational apps

no budget for now but maybe around R2k max

if i need to see for 2nd hand what options should i look at

thanks all
I have the normal version of that kids kindle and would not recommend it. It's slow and the screen resolution is too low.

Yeah I won one from Mybroadband, was used for about a week, after that someone broke the screen by putting a cup on it, didn't bother fixing it. No google support, screen is horrible, speed is horrible it's really a turd, the only cheap tablet that was worse was some Prestigo thing I bought.

Bought my daughter the Kindle Fire HD 8 and it's working like a bomb. Haven't had any issues with the speed or reliability and trust me when I say it's rugged enough for a 2-year old. The only issue I have is that you can't really load the Youtube KIDS app on although Youtube works fine. The Amazon store has a couple of nice education apps available for relatively cheap but the biggest downside is that the Freetime Unlimited doesn't work in SA.

I am playing with the thought of flashing the damn thing with Android at some stage but for now, it works like a dream.

Also won mine from MyBB xD.

I was able to install Google Play and a different launcher but because the firmware it came with was quite new I couldn't root it and remove the Amazon bloat completely. With every OTA update you have to go through the process again and again.

Other than doing that little bit of tinkering I haven't used it for anything else. The Amazon bloat really bogs it down and working with it for that short period was painful.

I miss my old Sony Xperia Tab A LOT right now. I remember the cool PS controller integration that made games amazing. Was also pretty thin, light, had nice sound and was waterproof. Where are they these days? Why no more sales in SA?

So do I, it's in my drawer with a cracked screen. Sony stopped making tablets ages ago.

I still use mine as a white noise generator when sleeping. However, screen is stuffed and I can only operate it because I know where the stuff sits. Battery still lasts a good 4 to 5 days, always on, playing white noise for a good 12 hours each day.

Man, that was a nice tab. I remember taking it for a swim in the pool when it was still new. Playing games on it while sitting in the shallow end in summer, etc. Ah, good old days.

Yeah it was and for it's time super thin, super fast and just sheer beaut. I had it for 7 years and my son was using it up until May this year, put it on his bed and forgot it was there :-(
