Well there are like a thousand different reasons why Telcrap should be taken to court, IS and a few of the Larger ISP's have banded together to do so. What about the public? Lets do the same...
What I propose is forming a class action type law suit against Helkom. This means that we get people to opt in and form part of the class or group of people represented as one to take on Helkom. Law suits cost money, so we get a really good Firm to take on the case. To pay them every person who opts in can contribute a minimum of lets say R 20 or more. This money goes into a fund which will be used to fund the operation.
There are already over 2000 members on this forum and I'm sure we could get much more with a little effort. If we get enough individuals, we could even do a few TV ads.
We can discuss the different angles we can attack Helkom on in this thread.
Helkom have made it almost impossible for ISP's to provide ADSL through their own bandwidth and the solution that does allow this, is at least ten times more expensive than regular ADSL and thats not including the internet bandwidth. This is extremely fishy due to the fact that this service runs in exactly the same mannor that the regular ADSL service does. It goes directly through the the same DSLAMS and over the same IP network that consumer ADSL does. So why is it so expensive? How can can SAIX offer it at such a low price? Telkom being the sole Telco in South Africa means that they cannot offer a service to the public which they cannot allow other ISP's to offer. Thats a monopoly! They would have to charge the same amount for ADSL access as other ISP's would be able to.
Well the topic has been set and I will approach some people regarding this. Who's in?
There is still hope!
