Takealot comes under fire for its dominance in South African ecommerce

Takealot is the biggest online store in South Africa by a significant margin, and it offers a wide selection of products across many categories and exceptional delivery services.

The company has grown substantially over the past few years, aided by the success of its in-house delivery team which ensures quick turnaround times for online orders.

Takealot's dominance is cemented through its successful economic strategy, although a number of retailers have expressed concern over the amount of power the company wields over South African ecommerce.

must be all those TA crushed ... and massive weekend special articles

Next day deliver. That is all. If the other "Big players" were to offer next day delivery I'd use them. It might seem like a small thing, but having the ability to order something and have it delivered tomorrow is big
Yes delivery is good, but after sales is more important

I have once returned a 'weber' braai the next day after realizing it's a piece of kak, they came to collect Full Refund
Bought fake Raybans through them (through 3rd party), 6 months later i realized something is wrong as coating was peeling off, Full Refund that week
A vacuum cleaner broke under warranty, immediate replacement

Service, now this is important, and why I support Takealot from day 1 since they were Kalahari.net or something like that :) Yes not always the cheapest, but for me service is a price Im willing to pay for

Dunno about this...

After trying to support the independant and smaller retailers through the years, you reach a point where enough kak service is too much. Just this past Friday received items ordered 29-Aug from TakeAlot. I knew going in that it should arrive tomorrow, but the whole process was transparent and smooth. And it arrived early too. Communication was super.

F*** these small retailers and their kak service. As long as stuff is above board, I will support TA. Dunno about their after sales service, but I am willing to find out.

I am all for giving the smaller guys business. What a waste of time. Loot will take 3 weeks to deliver and Raru 2 weeks. With NO communication. Takealot delivers the next day and communicates thoroughly. I only use Takealot now.

WTF is it with this country that the moment you become (legally and ethically?) the leader in what you do, you are "frowned upon"?!

Good question.

I suppose all one has to do is ask: 'Has the state granted permission to Take-a-lot in providing it's services?'

Does it depend on a license to operate, which comes from the state, for instance?

The only people i can think would want to "target" Takealot are people connected to govt-cronies who see $$$ by having some law or change passed so their new (but painfully badly run and managed) online store can suddenly make money....

Jealousy is nasty.

I recently purchased a phone from TFG Online, three weeks later and still no phone. Apparently it's gone missing and nobody knows where.
I'll stick with Takealot next time.

No-one gets to the top of the leaderboard by playing nice. That's true for pretty much any industry.

I haven't read this whitepaper, but the authors are clearly taking note of what's happening in various antitrust investigations and lawsuits abroad, and looking at similarities here. They may decide to get ahead of the problem before things get out of hand.
