Takealot Group grows revenue to R13 billion, still makes R111 million loss

If they hit $1 billion turnover next year, that would be absolutely massive. It's even more impressive when you consider how depressed the South Africa economy is and how many families don't actually have the disposable income to spend.

For the first time I think they may actually manage to be profitable n the near future.

Rupert's Monopoly.
Of course, they are spending a fk ton of money on new warehouses. Has anyone seen the mammoth collection points. This stuff ain't cheap.

Doesn't that mean higher expenses?
Which if there's such a big loss means, which counts toward the "loss" in revenue, which is a was to pay less tax l?

I think there's more sinister to all this than anything ethical.
There's no ethical corporation in this world.

Pretty sure a large portion of this revenue for which they were unprofitable comes from smaller players who don't have the ability luxury to run a business and not be profitable.

Ethics is not in the domain of organizations, but individuals. People can be ethical or unethical. Every organisation has their fair share of them. Organizations are designed to make money and sustain living standards. How they are guided by the people who run them can be ethical or unethical.

I also like Takealot, but this is a bad time for them to be experimenting and messing around... Amazon is on the Horizon. And is coming for your business.
I'm pretty sure they will survive though.

Organizations are designed to make money and returns, but should not be allowed to do so unethically.

There's plenty of info out there on how Amazon got to where it is now - think pouring endless billions of dollars over the years into a loss making enterprise (selling at or below cost) while destroying competition.

Takelot is just a much smaller (albeit local) copycat version of the big A.

I honestly don't think they're necessarily experimenting and more that they're expanding their logistics footprint to try and compete with a possible Amazon arrival. Even in Durban they have a huge new warehouse in Riverhorse valley area, just not sure if its operational yet.

The quoted figures are based on recommended retail prices...hahahahaha!!!! I couldn't resist commenting with that line...since they like to use it to define their discounts...they can use it to define their revenue and profits too....watch this space.....LOL

Me thinks that naspers plans to sell out to Amazon at the right price. Theres tv theres online retail theres delivery...everything Amazon is...and what more of a better place to start inroads to Africa than right here in RSA. The new jobs for our youth....until the terminators arrive

I guess my point is that organizations can do nothing without people.
People need to behave ethically, including those who are in charge of organizations.
