Takealot guilty of “fake” prices

What pisses me off more about takealot is when they say something has a huge discount and then you shop around and that's actually the normal price. Even worse is when those products are sold by third parties on takealot and the "special" price is the normal price via the 3rd party direct. Seen this happen a few times with products from Readers Warehouse. Basically inflating an artificial discount to make it look like a good deal.

I agree with the ASA. We cannot have a large company simply sitting back saying they cannot be held responsible for third party prices advertised on or via their platform. If you want to deliver a service like TakeaLot, you should indeed have checks and balances in place to ensure correct prices are advertised at all times without any exceptions. If a third party messes up, they need to be held accountable and removed from the TakeaLot system. In addition, I would have loved to see TakeaLot offer all the goods at the advertised prices and also hit with a R100m fine for misleading advertisements.

This should be a lesson for anyone deciding to venture into these type of businesses.

While they are at it, they can take a look at this ad as well:

They do not own the Internet, so how can they sell it to you? :whistling:

I hate takealot.
They will NEVER publish my bad reviews, but have no problems in posting my good reviews.
Their daily deals are 90% of the times not discounted at all.
Multiple "Unboxed" deals are more expensive than their "non unboxed" deals.
Their "discounts" are all fabricated, every single one. I cannot see how this has not been exposed or dealt with. I will buy dog food today for R400, next month the same dog food will be R430 with a 30% discount..., And its the same with EVERYTHING.

Takealot responded to the complaint, stating it is not an ASA member and that the organization’s rulings are therefore not binding to it.

The complaint that Takealot’s advertisement promising a discounted price was misleading was upheld, and it advised the company not to repeat this advertising.

So no matter what nothing happens to Takealot, and they don't care. What a pointless exercise, why would the ASA investigate the complaint if they have no authority to make Takealot comply to any findings?

Boycott Takealot

<sarc>I'm sure Takealot is loving this bad publicity</sarc>

Not much the ASA can do except alert the public to Takealot's scam behavior.

As consumers we need to support that ASA and show our displeasure with Takealot.

Boycott Takealot until they stop this unethical behaviour

Seriously. Who cares.

If u dont do some shopping around then the buyer is the chop for paying more than they should.

If u know they post fake specials then dont bother looking and spare yourself the aggrevation?

TA can do what they want, they pretty much own the online retail space at the moment.. the need competition - start buying from other retailers.

Also with the rand dropping you'd be surprised how much cheaper it is ordering from Amazon, especially for tech products.

I dont buy from takealot cuz they are the cheapest. They offer convenience and zero risk. I know their specials arent real

I use Takealot as little as possible nowdays - they're a mere shadow of what they were a few years ago. Even when everything's in stock, it can take a week for them to get it to you. Compare this to the next-day delivery if you ordered after midday which you used to be able to expect. They should be improving their logistics, not sliding backwards.

Here we go, everyone will now say they don't buy from Takealot.
