Takealot received legal threats for two years

Takealot says the company promising to bring criminal charges against it for selling counterfeit goods, RapidLash, has repeatedly threatened legal action for two years.

"We can confirm that Takealot has never received any communication from SAPS or any authorised inspector informing Takealot that a criminal charge has been laid for dealing in counterfeit products," a spokesperson told MyBroadband.

No complaint goes unanswered, except when you have a foot to stand on, but they kick it from under you because their staff decides you are not worthy.

IMHO the solution is simple, allow customers to rate third party sellers and build functionality that allows customers to report counterfeit goods. All thats left to do is to act on the info customers provide.

EDIT: maybe provide an average product rating for the items a third party is selling, the only downside is that this can be manipulated.

by not doing this they just enforcing the impression that they condoning this nonsense...

It is important to be aware that this is happening on Amazon too. I can't speak to our local Amazon, but I have seen this in their regional marketplaces. This would be applicable to all other marketplaces too.

You have brands with their own shops on AliExpress and the like who have to compete against imitations, and their own (grey) products. Crazy.

Honestly. Go look for a Samsung S24 Ultra on Facebook Marketplace SA, or for an Iphone 15 Pro Max.

There is about 9 fakes for every 1 real phone.

Yet SAPS has done nothing either.

You actually expect them to (be able to) do something about it? I wouldn't even expect it from a proper country's police force.
