Talk to a human at MTN.

Oh fusk. I may not be out the woods yet. HelloPeter in the last few days has people saying they have successfully cancelled but MTN still taking money. I would not be surprised.
Yea hope they really have cancelled yours after the crap you've been through since Aug to get this far . :cautious:
Just wondered if they confirmed in writing or do you see acc. status online ?

I always founds their Ai and computer systems far better than any human that worked for them. And with far less attitude.

Zombie thread revival. I've been trying to cancel my contract to go to prepaid (so I can port away from them). Dialing 135 no longer has any option to get to a human. Any combination of options no longer gets you through to a person. It all ends up in automated crap. This was not the case when I still had a contract so I suspect that 135 is really constrained for the "pre-paid plebs". Really, MTN is a terrible network - they might have good infrastructure but their customer service is horrendous.

I must add that my cancellation is due to 5-6 failed attempts from them to "upgrade" me from a Black Friday month-to-month contract to a Sky Silver package. Each time they tried the upgrade, it failed at the last step.

Now, it looks like they can't even do a cancellation properly - my contract was supposedly cancelled last week Friday (I received an email to this effect - and I waited the calendar month from date of cancellation), but I am unable to port because of a "block" on "outstanding funds" - a chat on their 135 WhatsApp line confirmed nothing was outstanding. This is the only time I could talk to a "real" person. And on the MTN app, I show as pre-paid, but I still have my contract minutes and data. So now, I'm in limbo... I'm at my wits' end. Tomorrow I'm going to an MTN store to speak to a real person...

I have also been trying to get hold of someone for over a month. Got a sim in a portable LTE device, suddenly stopped working. Still 8Gb left on there. On the App it says I have outstanding funds, not sure wtf it is as I can't find what I owe or why I owe them anything. I can add data more to the sim, allows me to buy more data, but the sim is not connecting at all.
Rather going to get a new sim from another provider

Believe me I would just burn the lot, but I need to keep my number. I use it for business and have had it for years. If it weren't for that I'd be done with it. I've already deleted their debit order.

The moment I can port my number, I'm deleting everything of theirs. Hopefully Melon does better - MTN's infrastructure without MTN's deplorable service.

I didn't know it was possible to hate a company so much.

Just make sure that you are going to an MTN direct store and not a franchise store.

This is the plan yes. Proper MTN direct, not a 135 store 🤣 I'm on their WhatsApp line now trying for the last time. If you go through enough automated options, there is a reply with an option to "speak to an agent". But the bastards don't make that available from the get go. Anything to avoid you being actually assisted...

They're all the same. Had the misfortune of dialing 135 (Vodacom) to stop a sim swop in progress. You have to jump through hoops to get a human being to talk to.

A few weeks ago I needed to blacklist my daughter's phone. I phoned 135 and the blacklist option only told me to "go into a store".
I dialled again and selected "report fraud". I then got put through to an agent. And wonder above wonder, the agent was very helpful and I did everything in that call and even got the ITC number right then.
It sounds like the agents don't know what option you selected to get through to them, so maybe try that!

The entire contact centre at mtn has been revamped to enable self service. Its clearly a work in progress.

Nope, no luck. Let's see if the store can do better - they can't get disconnected when I'm huffing in front of them.
