As we know yesterday Tapbots released an all new version of their popular Tweetbot Twitter client.

The issue with these guys they release V2 & charge you $5; that's all well & good as it's a quality App. I bought it.

They they slack off big time with updates & release & a new V3 & charge you another $5; no free updates to existing customers. I bought V3 as well.

Time goes by & then they do the same stunt; again & lack of updates & they release a new V4 & guess what another $5 is needed. No ways I'm I forking out another $5

That's not all; they pull V3 from App Store fully so now even if you bought V3 you can't pull in your "Purchases" tab anymore even.

In my book that's a bastard (executioner) move.

I won't get started on they they long promise of an iPad App now only rectified with V4 but for $5.

Have a look at these sentiments under the comments:

They didn't pull the app from users' purchased tab, they removed it from sale from the Store and an Apple bug has resulted in it not being available for now. I am sure it will be fixed in time.

As for paying $5 dollars for an update every two years, I can't understand how entitled people feel to others labour. It costs less than a couple of beers at a restaurant.

I was not aware of a "Purchases Bug". I bought V3 but still don't see it in my Purchases tab.

So I will see if that is the case.

WRT to $5 that's relative to how much you value the App. They are lots of quality Twitter Apps on the App Store & these guys are the only one try this tactic.

My sentiments are shared by the link I posted...big time.

Just to add also V4 is iOS 9 only & actually $10; $5 is an introductory price.

Unless you're a developer you won't get it as someone pointed out it's the price of a couple of beers.

So you would be ok if your boss said, ok you worked here for two years I paid you, I want you to continue working here, but I stop paying you.

This happened in the Mac App Store recently as well. In truth, Apple doesn't really give that level of control to developers.

Tactic? They are trying to run a business by selling software at a reasonable price. Others may have a different business model but I see nothing wrong with Tapbots' model.

The abundance of entitled children is hardly solid ground upon which to build an argument.

How often do you use the app in a week? For me it is at least 10 hours a week. How much is your time worth?

Also how much do you think a full time designer and developer are worth? Do you think they should be able to provide a living for themselves and their families from their work?
