Bought myself a Telkom Mobile/8ta starter pack today and under "Change Tarrif" on the *180# menu theres "prepaid data promotion" Anyone know what kindof tarrif is this and how will it benefit me (the consumer)?

"Data Promotion" means your allocated data is Telkom Mobile only, no roaming. But perhaps you can buy standard data bundle which allow MTN roaming. Only old SIM cards like mine already provisioned non-roaming cannot use MTN at all.

Voice tariff is another story, not attractive at all, don't remember, don't bother.

But I can access such data bundles already both non-roaming and roaming bundles without the need to change to this 'tarrif'... /confused

Correct. You can have different bundles loaded simultaneously. When you are roaming, it will deplete only roaming bundles. When you are not roaming, it will deplete non-roaming bundles first, then roaming bundles. When you are at the same location and have 8ta coverage, you don't need to load roaming bundles - just use cheaper one.
