From brief search, it appears that on use of TC-200, loss is of 2 f-stops and is to be operated in fully manual mode. That is okay for me.

My question. Has anyone used TC-200 on Nikon 55-200mm VR AF-S f/4-5.6G ED? Does it fit alright (any possibility of damage to electrical points et. al?) Any noticeable loss on Image quality? Thanks.

p.s. IQ As per KR, http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/tc200.htm - "then again teleconverters are usually a recipe for crummy images anyway."

Thanks, that link does say it is not a fit but getting mixed opinions - links as per below.

http://blog.nikonians.org/archives/Nikonians Teleconverter Table.pdf - Yes, Manual focus
http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/nikon/nikkoresources/teleconverter/index2.htm - fits all lenses upto 200mm
http://www.nathangriffin.com/technical/lenses/nikon_2x_teleconverter.htm - "The TC-200 is compatible with almost any Nikon AI or AIs compatible lens up to 200mm in focal length. It does not relay autofocus information from an AF lens, so while you can attached it to a modern body and lens, autofocus will not work. The TC-200 is made up of 7 elements in 5 groups. "

You'll find the 200mm lenses they are talking about are the ones that are f2, f2.8 or f4 example:

AF-S VR Nikkor 200mm f/2G IF-ED
AF-S NIKKOR 200mm f/2G ED VR II
AF Micro-Nikkor 200mm f/4D IF-ED
AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8G IF-ED
AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm F2.8G ED VR II
AF-S Zoom-Nikkor 80-200mm f/2.8D IF-ED
Nikkor 200mm f/4

I have tried a TC-200 on my camera, there is a lug on the TC that prevents it from fitting on certain lenses, the TC-200 does not work with my 70-300

Update on this one. I bought this yesterday (second-hand) and it fits perfectly on "Nikon 55-200mm VR AF-S f/4-5.6G ED". On a D90, I could change shutter speed but cannot select f-stops
