The TV I reviewed for them was quite good. Well, considering I was comparing it to my 2013-ish 43" Hisense.

T'was a good price, too.

I deduced from your previous TV and your question that you weren't a TV snob. Don't let these folks get started on these nits!
I just want something to replace a broken Samsung that wouldn't break the bank. I'll know by Tuesday if it does.

Just setting it up - fortunately I have the Roku because AndroidTV is a mess. I'll have to sideload all of my other apps if I want to use services like US Disney, Hulu, ESPN, etc.

The TV itself is pretty decent. Nice picture.
@bwana ao a mini review upcoming? Minus the AndroidTV software...

@bwana any complaints about the TV.. Haha.. Whish you went 65"?
No complaints since I delved into the Roku system setup and figured out how to turn the tv on and off using the Roku remote - now I don't even see AndroidTV.

I can't get Alexa working so I'm going to assume @TCL_South Africa disabled that.

As for size - I'm less than 2m away from the tv - 55" is plenty. At R6999 it's a steal.

Since you are a photographer and a person used to Apple displays, I’m going to trust your judgement when you say that the picture quality is good (enough). I just need a little more time to convince myself to order.

I'm thinking about getting the display adapter and hooking it up to my laptop for some video editing. Might be worth borrowing a colorimeter and calibrating it properly if I do.

EDIT - got the adapter and it looks good enough for my needs. 3840 x 2160 @ 60hz.

@bwana you mentioned you are 2m from the screen.. How is the viewing angles? I don't mean 120 degrees but more like 45 degrees.. Will be a family TV and we can't all sit "right in front"..

I want a R20K LG C1 but I am also being realistic.. Nowadays one does not spend more than 3 hours a day in front of the TV..

Yeah, I was so excited for Disney plus and all the Star Wars stuff that I found myself in Makro a couple of weeks back when it was on sale for R17k. I had to be honest with myself at the last minute - I average about 2 hours a week watching stuff when there isn’t a big release like Stranger Things or whatever. Decided not to get it - I don’t need to keep up with my friends or the influencers at MyBB. I hope to continue my fight against FOMO. The TCL will do.

Viewing angles seem fine but I'm definitely not a connoisseur of the viewing arts.

While I was happy rolling the dice you might want to be a little more cautious and try to see the set in action if you can.
