The budget TV giant taking on Samsung in South Africa

Despite being in South Africa far shorter than its rivals, Chinese electronics giant TCL is seeing a steady increase in local adoption of its TVs.

TCL launched in South Africa in late 2021. It initially offered a small line-up of 4K LED and QLED TVs on Takealot, with its primary focus on competitive pricing.

TCL is a very popular budget brand in Canada in the same way that Hisense is here. Unlike Hisense however, they also make pretty decent Smartphones.

I bought a 65" TCL 4K UHD 120Hz for one of the rooms. Its the lightest thing i've ever used.

So far its working perfectly, and the software runs nice and fast (Google TV)

Products are made to a price point - and I think TCL seems to fit perfectly for how the price and value

TCL is huge all over the world. And they constantly get rave reviews. Check out Digital Trends on youtube.
And the great thing is we in SA actually get the exactly the same TV as the rest of the world. Not like the Hisense scam.

A quick google search :

Got to laugh at the sheep here bleeting about the fact that its cheap and Chinese. There has been a quiet revolution where you can use cheap, Chinese and quality in the same sentence. At the moment South Africa is a dumping ground for subpar, overpriced Korean crap, and I was a victim with my two Samdung 7000's failing with precisly the same backlight error. If you do just the teeniest bit of research online and on reddit, you will find that a lot of TCL models are highly rated, especially at their price points.
I recently bought a 65" C755 after a lot of research, and was shocked at the comparative features of the Samdung, LG and even Sony brands at similar price points. Samsung only becomes competitive with the C755 at more than double the price point. So go on bleating about chinese crap, I'm having a blast on my excellent TCL mini-led TV.
