Anything that requires a persistent connection for notifications; Gtalk, Gmail, WhatsApp, Viber, etc.

What kind of phone do you have?

Android users can try IP Address Widget.
Set it up as follows:
ip_address_widget_settings.jpg

Thanx, I try and test with the 41... and 197... IP range. I have Huawei U8800H/Ideos X5

For the more technically inclined:

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.eolwral.osmonitor&hl=en

OS Monitor is a useful tool for showing connections and their status to various servers, such as those used by WhatsApp, Google C2DM (port 5228), Viber etc.

Just remember, even though you may see an active "Established" connection to Google C2DM on port 5228 for example, it does not necessarily mean inbound data (Gtalk messages, C2DM notification "tickles") will arrive on your phone, which is the problem we have with the 197.x IP range at the moment.

Tapping on the active connection shows a nice pop up Whois search result.

Any update?

I just keep disconnecting and reconnecting until I get an 41.*.*.* IP address for now.

I'm convinced the problem is fixed in certain areas. Still working 100% in Pretoria since last Saturday. Is anyone in the Pretoria area habing problems anymore? And those who are having problems, what is your location?

Perhaps you are fortunate enough to be consistently getting a 41.x range IP address, so will not notice the problem.

It would be useful if you could maybe post your IP address?
You can make use of the IP address widget suggested earlier in this thread.

Maybe you are correct and certain areas only get 41.x range addresses.

I have just tested again and can confirm that the 197.x range still has the delay problem at the moment.
I have several Gtalk and WhatsApp test messages still pending delivery.

You aren't perhaps on Virgin Mobile are you?
I know they give a private 10.x address.

Will test this delay issue with my Virgin Mobile prepaid sim as well.

I am on virgin mobile but I've been posting in this thread because in the past when my push notifications weren't working and I was checking my ip address I was always getting either the 41.x or the 197.x ip addresses as you guys have been posting, so I've just been posting it in here cause virgin uses the cell c towers anyway and I was having the exact same issues. But now it seems I'm getting the virgin mobile ip? Could that be why my connection is now working correctly?

Firstly, thanks for your input, all feedback on this issue is welcome here. :)

Just completed some testing and yes, Virgin Mobile on 10.169.25.129 is not experiencing this delay problem at the moment.
So, all is well for those lucky Virgin Mobile users for now.

I have an idea that Cell C are going with an interim "quick fix" solution to the WhatsApp, Gtalk, Gmail delays and access to certain websites issue dependent on 41.x vs. 197.x IP ranges as discussed in the relevant threads, by simply not allocating any 197.x IP addresses.

I have been unable to get a 197.x address for a while now, effectively "solving" those two problem issues. Just hope their IP address "pool" is large enough to accommodate the subscriber base.

Edit: 21:05
Lol! That would have been too easy.
197.x is back, along with all of its "troubles"!!

I seem to be having this problem on MTN for the last 2 days... :(
Perhaps they bought some second hand equipment from CellC for a good price :p

It's been more than 10 weeks CellC, how much longer? I'm struggling to get an 41.x IP this morning. Keep getting 197.x and it does not work on the 197.x.

To be fair, it's only been 2 weeks since Base122 discovered the issue with the 197.x IP address range, and Cell-C are working on it.
