Hi benitok

I do understand your frustration and that you want feedback.
I do want to give that, but i will not post unless i have the go ahead.
As you can see if you say some thing and do not live up to it will cause issues.

I will try and post more regular update, but it not sure that it is completed i will not.
And you really want to me keep saying busy with it, of course not.
As all of you are IT inclined, you know that on large network that work with vendors,
It can take time.

Will try best to keep updating as often as possible.

****thank you for feedback

Regards
~AM~

Disconnected, reconnect and got a 41.x IP. Left the phone for 7 minutes and GTalk still worked ok.

Edit: Went home, got an 197.x IP along the way and GTalk is still working. Hoping it is fixed. Will see again tomorrow.

So far so good!
Tested Gtalk, WhatsApp, Gmail, Viber.

No delays or connection issues noted on either 41.x or 197.x at the moment.

The >4 min problem issue with port 5228 being "killed" by incoming and outgoing Gtalk test messages has gone.

Viber actually seemed to behave better through all this, as it does not rely on port 5228 C2DM, but rather uses its own port 4244 persistent connection.

Can it be?
Are we about to finally bid this thread a long awaited R.I.P ???

(Still the APN hiccup on 197.x - that discussion in the relevant thread - hope fixing that does not undo this "fix")

iPhone testers??

Will test Virgin Mobile SIM as well.
Update to follow...

Edit: 21h38
Just had a whole lot of data connection disconnect/reconnects happen on my Cell C HTC.
Wonder if there is further work being done on the network at the moment?

Edit: 21h57
Still getting these random data disconnects.
Also on my unrestricted APN 3G modem connection as well.
Further testing abandoned till this stabilizes.
Lucky I am posting here with my ADSL connection!

Looks like we may not be bidding this thread farewell anytime soon.

197.x is not working again.
Delays on WhatsApp and Gtalk.

Did notice last night and earlier this morning, that I could not access my Cell C CCTV test sites on the unrestricted APN on 41.55.x.x. and could not surf any websites from the phone browser either, when my phone was on the 197.x range. (which I now can) But, Gtalk and WhatsApp were working with no delays.

Maybe a change was rolled back?

Testing on the 197.x range at the moment.
Getting an idea they have shifted the 4 min inactivity period up to 8 min.

Gtalk messages don't seem to be coming in on time after 8 mins of inactivity at the moment.

Confirm, delay is on 197.x. Tested after 6 mins of inactivity and did not come through.

No delays being noted on either 41.x or 197.x after quite a number of test messages.
Looks promising.

Still this 197.x access to the 41.55.x.x unrestricted APN issue.
Seems erratic though.
More in that thread later.

197,x still not working!

Check out the "unrestricted APN" or "Unable to access certain websites" threads for my 197.x post.
I wonder if it depends on which 197.x(low) or 197.x(higher) address you have?

Edit:
Just checked and failing to receive my Gtalk test message when my phone is on 197.108.x.x
OS Monitor shows an Established connection on port 5228, but no inbound.
Could be that in my earlier tests, I was getting 197.x(higher) addresses.
This is getting complicated!

Thanks to ginggs for pointing out the two netblocks within the 197.x range here

Tested with an address from each block:-

197.104.177.226:
Could not see any delay problems with Gtalk test messages.
Tried various inactivity periods up to 20 mins.

197.169.127.133:
No inbound Gtalk test message after 6 mins inactivity (different to the 4 min period previously noted)
Attempt to send a Gtalk message after 6 mins inactivity results in port 5228 connection being "terminated" and a "connection to server lost" warning in Gtalk App. Connection re-establishes a random period later, but messages still intermittently go missing.

No delays are currently being noted with Gtalk, WhatsApp and Gmail on the 41.x range or addresses within the 197.104.0.0 - 197.111.255.255 range. (2 netblocks)

It would appear that no IP addresses within the 197.168.0.0 - 197.171.255.255 range are currently being allocated to handsets.

This effectively eliminates the 6 min delay problem that was still being experienced 2 days ago.
So, technically, it appears that Cell C have met their target of eliminating this delay problem by month end as previously communicated.

Well done Cell C. :)
You have made a major improvement in the performance and reliability of Gtalk, WhatsApp and Gmail, bringing this on par with the other networks. I am sure all your customers and prospective customers appreciate your efforts.

Having said that, there is still a small glitch with unrestricted APN access and persistent "hung" CLOSE_WAIT connections. Future patches and fixes sometimes have an uncanny way of undoing previous "fixes". Let's hope that does not happen and in no way will reintroduce this "delay" issue in the future.

I'll be watching you Cell C....like a....:D:D

Thanx to Base122 and some of the other posters that persisted in technical testing and reporting on this problem - I think you guys helped Cell C a lot.

Glad to know Base122 will be "watching out" for Cell C users ;-)

What IP address does your phone have?
41.x or 197.x?
If 197.x, post at least the second octet of the 197 address.

41.49.111.135

I am always on that range. I think Moses forced my number onto the 41 range (he said he moved my number to a single server) to stop me from crying like a banshee on spirits! lolz. I was on a 19 somthing something range last night at home cause the Cell C signal just dissapeared into thin air and my phone switched to Vodacom roaming. I hope that did not mess it up. I will test it just now with a gmail email. Maybe it was just a glitch in the WhatsApp matrix. :)
