Maybe you can try the Cell C sim in one of the Iphones?
I suspect the push notification will not work on Cell C.
Would be interesting to know.

Well, the I-Phone push is definitely slower than the Android push. I'm used to that though. The CellC sim in either the I-Phone 3GS and I-Phone 4 has similar results to the Galaxy S. Email sent, only received roughly an hour later when it polled the server.... not cool. Will attempt with push only and polling off soon. Watching the ruggers now.

PS: The 3GS was on edge, the Iphone 4 was on 3G FYI; made no difference.

Do you guys think Cell C will take this seriously and fix it soon? I dont want this to be the same thing of the RBM clients that still cant use the self help portal on the Cell C website that has been reported here how long ago now??

If they cant/will not fix this...then I am not sure I want to continue with my contract anymore. I am not a nitty gritty person. I can let little things go and live with it....but this situation for me is a biggie. It is really ruining my enjoyment of my phone.

I will of course give it some time for Cell C to investigate.....but if it takes like a month or two...max three to fix this then perhaps staying with Cell C just aint worth it and I will start enquiring if there is a way out of my contract. I hope it does not come to that as that on its own will be a drama I am sure. For now I will be positive and trust that Cell_C will give this thread his attention and try and get it to be made some kind of priority.

*sigh*

+1 If Cell C thinks they grew their customer base quickly, they must see how quickly they can lose their customer base.

I recently ported my son's number over from Vodacom to Cell-C. He has a Nokia N95 8GB and uses WhatsApp.
He showed me today that messages take 30-40 minutes to be delivered, he says it was near instant when he was on Vodacom.
I connected his phone to iBurst using wifi and his messages were back to being delivered instantly.

This problem is not limited to Android, and it's not limited to people who've ported, it is just that they're more likely to notice if it was working differently before they ported.

Any Iphone or Blackberry WhatsApp users care to add anything regarding your experience on Vodacom Vs Cell C networks?

Yup; this is not limited to Android. The I-Phone issues are the same as other users experience here: WhatsApp messages take up to an hour to get delivered when the phone is idle for a time. With prepaid vodacom sims messages are delivered near instantly. Regarding the BB; it would appear that with BIS activated there is no difference in Voda/CellC. Remember that BIS MUST be activated for WhatsApp to function on BB.

Its not just instant messaging though - push e-mails too do not function as they should.

Just to satisfy my curiosity and seeing as Cell C's network is down for me at the moment, put an 8ta sim in the HTC desire HD phone and did some testing.

Happy to report, as others have confirmed, push notifications seem to be working fine on 8ta (roaming on Mtn).
Did a few tests with Gtalk, Gmail and WhatsApp, after some random idle periods and all messages received within seconds.
Not sure if this would be any different if the 8ta sim was locked to the actual 8ta network only.
Maybe I'll get to that sometime...

dammit, i have 2 contracts expiring with Vodacom soon. I cannot port over if this issue isn't fixed. I am not going back to sms and mail fetching. Cell C rep is there any news on this?

Just to confirm, guys are you saying it takes forever for whatsapps to go through?

/ goes to look at 8ta's website /

Sending is not a problem. It is when your phone goes into idle mode that Cell C basically puts your connection to sleep and your emails and WhatsApp messages can take anywhere from 40 minutes to a hour to come through...unless you every minute or so refresh it manually.

And once your phone does come out of idle, Google Talk must first sign in again or refresh its connection. Almost another week past and still we are waiting for a fix from Cell C.

To be fair...a guy from Cell C have been in contact with me. We have been testing it together using WhatsApp and he admitted there is a problem....and that they have been able to duplicate the issue on their side. They are working on it. Have no idea when it will be sorted though. Lets hope it does not take too long.

Well I hope Cell C fixes it soon, there is no point sending my Galaxy S over to them if it will operate as a dumb phone. Dammit there is always something huh!

Thought I would test one of my newly provisioned "unrestricted" APN sims in my Android HTC Desire HD, to see if this would resolve this problem issue.

Not good news I'm afraid :(

Not even an unrestricted APN seems to resolve this.
Testing continues....

Specialists, we appreciate your efforts and await a resolution.

I was hoping it would. If this isn't resolved by September, then I guess I will port my number back to Vodacom. This is really ridiculous, what is the use of a smart phone if you cannot communicate properly.

+1

A simple "We're actively working on this" to put our minds at ease would be great! I check this thread every day for some good news.

bwhahahahahaha. Oh no that made me laugh!!!!!!

Shame he sent me another message last night saying that he is at home but a collegue that is at work is doing traces etc etc with him trying to figure out what is causing this.

I wonder why this is such a difficult thing for them to trace though.
