Hello

I was referred to this forum by a friend who got a project here, Im a student at TUT and Im working in a group with 2 other students and we are supposed to build a system for a company or a client as our third year projects.

So if you can help us get our Diplomas we will help you and your business get an IT solution.

The whole idea of this project is to build a system for a client who will treat us as IT professionals and we treat you as our first client.

Anyone willing to take us on please reply

Thank you

Well if your looking to do some good, and you are gamers, you could always help us by creating a competition ladder system which ranks local gaming teams according to friendly's played.

If you are interested in this, let me know and I'll give you some more details.

My advice would be to go to a video shop in your area or a hair salon and ask the people if they would be willing to help you out. What you basically need to do is a point of sale system. With a point of sale, you've got more than enough analysis to do and its easy enough to code in the very short space of time that you have on your hands.

Trust me on this. I've been through it and we took on a huge system that got us first prize but we soon enough realized that a point of sale is the best way out. And also, you are doing this for free and the varsity has got all the IP of your work so don't try and be clever and think that you can maybe do something great and sell this thing off afterwords - you won't be able to do.

So a point of sale would be more than enough to show your lecturars that you can do the analysis and you do understand what programming is about - because that is the purpose of the course.

Thanks for the advice, someone who has been there and done it any advice is good advice, but Im the type of person looking for a challenge, Ive already been through the process of building a POS and Stock control system for 2 of my dad's friends its too easy and mundane in my opinion, Ive even built an asset tracking system for my last year project. I wanna impress and getting the same thing done again is not going to cut it. I do realize its a lot of work but we actually have the time to do this. From the varsity stand point it will be done in two phases. Phase 1 this semester and phase 2 next semester, but if the project is challenging and our client is engaging and pushing us to our limits then there is no reason I personally should not continue to communicate with the client till its 100% done.

Neotel needs a realtime data/bandwidth usage system, in fact they need a complete "customer accounting/relations system" .......apparently this is VERY CHALLENGING . Might be worth investigating :)

business ain't what it used to be and programming ain't what it used to be.
as long as something is profitable, it's viable in business.
that's all you have to prove at the end of the day.
perhaps think out the box a bit.
isn't that what the guys at google and facebook did?

Do u have an email, dont think Il end up doing the whole thing for them but maybe a part or even get involved in the analysis of requirements etc, + it could be a chance to get employed!!!

That is soooooo 100% true, this goes the same for sports or anything else, its all about the money, programming was passion and making ideas happen, if thinking out of the box you mean come up with something then Ive got plenty of ideas like I said its just that for this project we actually have to work with a real client, I hopefully got one but he is a bit concerned about the ownership hopefully if its easy to get the ownership transferred from the university to the client then we got ourselves a project.

Thanks for all the responses

We did a patient management system for an HIV/Aids hospice. Was quite an experience, and quite rewarding, a lot of work though. Provided some interesting requirements, including things like ensuring patients with different diseases are in different wards, managing invoicing, staff schedules etc. Got some cash from microsoft as a prize which was a bonus. You should look for a good cause, plus your institution will be more likely to give them the software, and they will probably use it. A lot of groups chose businesses etc, and the systems did not end up getting implemented.

Hi Itchy

If you want to PM me an email address, I have an application that needs to be built. Not for Profit Organisation so there is definitely no payment for it, but we want an association management application that will allow members to do stuff via our website, have their own area to login to and the app must allow us to do basic invoicing and renewals, booking of events, etc.

Some interesting work

I got onto this a bit late, but if you guys are still looking, I have a system that will prove challenging for you. It is a complete re-write of an existing system, with a whole lot more bells & whistles. If successful, it will defiantly go into production and might have some extra spin-off work.

PM me if your still looking.
