Gave in to temptation and went and had a look at the iSTORE at Gateway.

Sorry to say -- MBP -- Naw -- looked at the 17" -- kinda felt skinny. Tin sheet aluminium from the tin hat foil guys.

Mac PRO = TOO Expensive.

Seen better PC hardware.

Mini-Mac -- YES -- + 24" Cinema display = MIGHTY Mac

WHERE does one find a MAC wireless KB & Mouse ....????

IOMEGA -- 1Tb Mini-Mac storage -- stackable -- Yes please. HHmmm Perhaps NOT --NO eSATA ?????:(

Now to try and find a "bare-bones" Mini-Mac for about R1,500. ( I already have Laptop CPU's RAM HDD etc etc )
That Apple Airport internal WiFi card looks miniPCI Express -- sure a standard INTEL would fit in there.

Anyway -- all was not lost -- managed to get a Logitech Laser BT mouse ( but NO -- NOT at Gateway )

Doing MORE with LESS

FW -- >

They come with FW though. That's going to be faster than the internal (5400rpm) hdd anyway.

FW 400 or FW 800 -- ?

Quite a difference -- & -- who is going to stick with a 5400 RPM drive ?

I am quite sure you can fit an SSD  -- put TWO in the iOMEGA enclosure:eek:

You will probably struggle to find an intel mac mini at 1500. I think you will struggle to find any mac mini (that isn't seriously broken) for 1500.

Dunno about the new ones, my old PPC one had FW 400 (which is still fast enough).

Mine came with a 4200rpm drive! I replaced it with a 5400rpm one that made a huge difference. Replaced that with a 7200rpm one much later.

Why not put it in the Mac Mini?

Congrats on the Mac Mini - my dream PC! With an SSD it should be quite amazing.

Yes. Except if you accept a hackintosh.
