IkamvaYouth is a township-based volunteer programme that gets learners out of poverty and into university has once again shown that transformation is possible, despite the odds.
IkamvaYouth seeks to appoint Technology Coordinator, based in Cape Town, Western Cape and reports to COO.The Technology Coordinator will oversee and manage the organisation’s information and communications technology, including responsibility for procuring and maintaining hardware and software, as well as the organisation’s two websites and various applications (e.g. google apps , etc.).
He/she will supervise and coordinates “help desk” activities, assist end users with technical assistance in resolving hardware and software issues by fielding telephone calls and email communication, answering questions, diagnosing problems and performing troubleshooting activities. He/she will develop escalation and resolution procedures, as well as trains end users.
Key areas of responsibility:
Information and Communications Technology
● Manage other consultants and contractors (web developers, hosters, tech maintenance and other service providers)
● Procurement of equipment for staff, labs and offices
● Developing and ensuring implementation and compliance for policies in technology procurement, maintenance and replacement
● Overseeing process of establishing new labs (e.g. advise on appropriate hardware/software purchases)
● Oversee technological aspects of establishing new offices at branches
● Ensuring effective Internet access at all branches
● Securing partnership with Connectivity provider, for reaching remote areas and working towards pro-bono or discounted bandwidth
● Test hardware and software options
● Coordinate and oversee all hardware and software purchases and implementation
● Working closely with colleagues in developing tech solutions to info management, analysis and reporting
● Oversee maintenance & hosting of two websites, and in particular, work with developers to assess any technical challenges in displaying the content.
Networking Admin
● Overseeing hardware (phones and laptops) and software for staff (contracts, upgrades, procurement, insurance, etc.)
● Work with integrating social media & donation tools / plugins for the websites
● Responding to ad-hoc requests for assistance / troubleshooting
● Managing and overseeing staff accounts and content for google apps (email accounts, online calendar), social media, Dropbox etc.
● Setting up/linking accounts for staff for above-mentioned apps & training staff to use them
Staff and labs support
• Co-ordinate the support and use of IY current ITC (Information Technology and Communications) systems
• Ensure all staff and labs workstations are up and running 100%
• Ensure staff and labs have Internet access
• Installation of hardware and software upgrades
• All server backups
• Regular virus checks
• To minimize turnaround time for support calls. Goal: 90% of tickets resolved within 1 business day.
Managing the IT Asset Register
• Keep track of all IT related equipment on all branches and maintain the IT asset register including donations
• Communicating to Finance so that they are able to update the Financial Asset Register
• Keeping track of all the loan hardware
• Setting up equipment for events
• Making sure all hardware is returned in good condition after use
Qualifications and competencies
- Relevant tertiary qualification
- 3-5 year’s experience monitoring and maintaining computer systems, networks and IT related functions in an organization
- Proven ability to work in a team and provision of technical support
- Good report writing skills
- High proficiency with Microsoft office package
- Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills
- Good problem solving skills
- High ability to work independently with good time management skills
- Patience and ability to train and support colleagues with a wide range of technical competencies
