The keys being "hidden" is simply not an acceptable excuse. The answer to that stupid excuse is that the keys should've been on the person of the licensed firearm owner.
I saw that too - couldn't find any news on it either.Lol, what an idiot.
On a related note, I got sent a video last week of a kid at a firing range, blowing down the chamber of a pistol and accidentally shooting himself in the face. Pretty sure he died.
Couldn't find any news articles about it though.
Law just says that only you should have access to the safe, I guess it's up to courts to decide if you took reasonable measures to ensure that.If this was a requirement, it would be written into law. Having to keep a key on you at all times is a ludicrous notion.
The requirement is that ONLY the licenced firearm owner has access. If the key is hidden where a imbecile Grade 11, 20 year old can find it, then the licenced firearm owner is NOT the only one with access. If this was a requirement, it would be written into law. Yes, and you'll have the hide that key in another safe.Where would you hide it so no-one could find it? In another safe?
You wouldnt need to hide it, as it would be on your person. What part are you failing to understand?Where would you hide it so no-one could find it? In another safe?
Yes, and you'll have the hide that key in another safe.![]()
"The bullet went through his left lung before exiting. Luckily it missed all his important organs," Claasen told the publication.

Was exactly my thoughts when I read the article... Phew, lucky it only hit his lungSeems I was wrong all these years, a lung is only a minor organ and as useless as the appendix.![]()
How is it that ONLY the licensed firearm owner having access, is ludicrous? How is keeping a simple key on you ludicrous? What places do you visit where a key in your pocket is blasphemy?Refer post #44 . Ludicrous notions not being entertained.
I saw that too - couldn't find any news on it either.
That looked like 3 young people at the range. Wasn't sure how on earth the kid managed to do something so utterly dumb.
If you sleep and I have long fingers, I have access ...How is it that ONLY the licensed firearm owner having access, is ludicrous? How is keeping a simple key on you ludicrous? What places do you visit where a key in your pocket is blasphemy?
Yeah, it's crazy - either it wasn't instructed clearly, or the guy had a momentary lapse of all brain function. Not all guns have a safety, but you should always know the state of your gun (loaded, chambered, cleared).I would love to know more, almost seems like it could have been purposeful. I mean, I've never held a gun before but I know the following:
1. Never point a weapon at someone (including yourself).
2. Keep your finger off the trigger.
3. Keep the safety on when not intending to shoot at a target.
I find it hard to believe that the gun range failed to communicate these things to the kids taking part.
