South Africans hate their cellular network provider

Research from DataEQ, in partnership with Deloitte Africa, shows that telecoms remains South Africa’s least-liked industry.

The latest South African Telecommunications Sentiment Index revealed that the sector ranked last for the second consecutive year compared to banking, insurance, and food retail.

Cell C has turned into utter junk. For the last couple of months I have only been able to get EDGE everywhere in Cape Town. Cell C has supposedly switched their contracts to the Vodacom network, but Vodacom subscribers get excellent reception but Cell C roaming on Vodacom only get EDGE. My phone has literally turned into a brick whenever I am outside of a WiFi spot.

Not really...I switched from Vodacom to MTN in 2006 and have never looked back. Never have an issue with reception.
I do hate Frogfoot though as they don't have any service (doing maintenance yet again tonight!).

In other news water is wet and fire is hot.
We hate them because we are taken for fools and have been ripped off for years.
We pay premium prices for absolute kak
And don't get me started on the load shedding and them not replacing batteries. They think we are really stupid.

I have had to resort to an additional pre paid sim and use that for data most of the time thank God for dual sim phones

Mine is Telkom. I can tolerate them, but I'm not all that impressed with them.

So far its a decent device with a decent package on a decent network with pretty great reliability. This part I'm happy with, as long as they don't screw with billing. Billing issues are always a nightmare to sort out. The last one had us calling/chatting to them daily for WEEKS. That's where they lose points dramatically.

I feel neutral about MetroFibre. Expensive provider + some reliabilty issues of late, although its usually a construction project or some major disaster (welcome to KZN) that takes things offline. They haven't been super reliable and that hurts their reputation. Neighbours are crowing "but my ADSL never had these issues!!" because obviously they are old and don't remember Telkom outages lol

Yet ask the one thing people cannot do without and the majority will say their phone and then that same majority can barely use the thing past tiktok and facebook.

Vodacom is the Devil. Based on this article I might just jump to MTN. I thought they were just as bad... but if as you say the perception is not as bad, then I might do the switch.
Vodacom go out of their way to be the scummiest company in SA.
That obviously doesn't apply to ALL of their employees, since they don't all have a choice of working there.
And I have known some good Vodacom employees.
But in general, the NET effect of Vodacom as a company continues to be evil.... they just don't seem to be able to turn it around, or even have the desire to do so....

There was similar survey across various sectors several years ago. In that survey they also included government departments. Telecoms came out lower than every government department other than Home Affairs. There was only a very slim margin between the two of them.

Well just about everyone in this thread/on MyBB complains about their network. And according to you the majority of complainers don't know how to use their phones. Ergo MyBB'ers are a bunch of idiots
Your words, not mine

There's a difference between the headline using "hate" and the article using "dislike".

Deloitte would not approve of this fake headline...

But they'll never switch, even with a legitimate alternative.

I'm very happy with prepaid mobile from Afrihost. Awesome app, one set of prices, nothing expires too quickly, vastly better customer support than Vodacom, MTN, Telkom or Cell C, and it runs through the best infrastructure available (MTN). I get rock solid 5G with my iPhone.
