Morning,

On the 9th of December my telephone line just went poof...dead...niks...nothing.
4Mb ADSL is running at 50kb d/l and 50kb u/l if I'm lucky.

I've phoned the Tech dept several times and each time I get a different answer.
Some can't give me ETTR and some said it would be 30/12/2017.

Now this morning I thought I would pick up telephone just to hear IF the line is working.
And it is,but there is a lot of noise on the line and I'm getting 2Mb on my line.

Next thing...kapow...line is dead and speeds are down again.
They are apparently working on cables at the exchange but this absurd as it is going on for almost a month now.

Can't see the fault on the SAIX Notice board either.

Your symptoms are consistent with a single wire fault in your twisted pair landline connection, somewhere between you and the nearest junction box. This is most likely close to your end (underground?) and not the exchange itself, and definitely nothing to do with your ISP.

Voice/dial-tone requires a two-wire circuit to operate, while ADSL can barely scrape by with the remaining single wire (high-frequency modulation).

This doesn't fix your problem, but gives you some idea what to expect...

Thank you,do you perhaps know how long such a fault can take to repair?

With Telkom it really depends on the techie that gets your call. If you are lucky it will take a few days. Ive had a similar issue and it took them 3 months to fix. Make sure you keep the call open or reference the previous call/s when you create a new one (I still dont get how they cannot re-open calls.)

Good luck.

4mb line worked till 14:00 yesterday @ 2mbps and poof...dead.No telephone line and speed at 40kbps untill 22:00 then went back up to 2mbps and telephone working.

Well I reported the fault on Twitter and they gave me an escalated fault reference number.

Lets hope all turns out for the best.

Right, update time....They reckon me that some technician is working remotely on my problem. WTF is that suppose to mean?
Well no one can give me an answer as to date.
