I am looking to get my daughter a telescope she has a interest in stars etc. My budget as she is 5yrs is around R2K. Any suggestions on what I should look for or keep away from. Where the best place to buy would be etc.

TIA.

R2k is a waste of money. Rather spend more and get something decent.

We bought an Orion Goscope from Technopro, for R1,800. It's fine for peering at the moon and even Saturn on a clear night. But the tripod is horrifically terribly cheap and poorly made. A 1.5cm plastic bolt mounts the base to the legs and it stripped its thread after fewer than 10 uses. I'd rather avoid this unit

You should really consider getting the liddle miss a pair of binoculars instead of a 'scope.

Toddlers have very short attention spans...

I saw the internation space station the fly past other night.

That's 350km up - would those cheap telescopes be able to the a shape on it?

Hi, I have a budget of R6 000, to buy a telescope. ( well, on behalf of a friend)

I am an amateur and what would you recommend ?
Would you go for an electronic scope or what ?

I'm thinking something simplistic for local Milky way viewing and possibly for some local astro photography.

Please advise. thanks.

The ISS is about 350km in the sky - think a cheap lil telescope will see that nicely?

... sounds expensive ;)

I'll give a telescope a skip - but awesome photo!
