The total ‘standard’ cost for the HomeDSL 1024 will sit at around R 940-00 if you use a standard 3 Gig TelkomInternet ISP account.

plus 90 Rand Landline Rental = 1030 Rand/monthRIDICULOUS...

WTF!!!

Wtf is wrong with Telkom. They as always seem to start with a f*cking ridiculous price, until they're pressured into lowering it (i.e. if they're feeling anything at all).

I thought the price might be 549 or 559. But oh f*cking NO. It had to be 680!!! Why not make it 780 or 880 so that less people can have?

P*ss off Telkom. I'm not removing my ADSL on Nov 1, I'm ripping it out.

Ah, so I see Telkom are being very sneaky...

Those price "reductions" weren't really reductions in the proper sense - it was just to make way for another product and to milk the consumer for more milk.

Lol, 1mbit and 3 GB Cap.

That is ridiculous, has any of their product managers ever used the internet to try
and understand the limitations of 3GB ?

Great, you can now get your 3Gb account capped in 1 day instead of 2. Yay.

Damn. That's a whole R19 cheaper than iBurst's bundled charge - without an ISP charge attached. No thanks.

What the hell is wrong with Telkom.. They want to make money on the few ppl that have money to get ADSL. Why not making ADSL cheaper so more ppl can get it. Then on the long run they make more money.. F&$k... I Have ADSL in the UK and I pay £30 (-+R300) for a 2M line with a 15 Gb cap, and that is still not the cheapest I can get. I mean they are running on 8M line here for £30.. Dam the SA is not so old. They need to re-think there Sh@tt.They are losing money.

So I guess the new superfast ADSL will kick in at the same time as they shove their ridiculouse per gig billing rates down our throats. Who on gods green earth can this possibly be marketed at? Or is it just a way for them to tell ICASE etc that ADSL in SA is improving when in reality it is getting far worse.

I'm going to go buy me a Hellkom T-Shirt. Actually I'm going to buy everyone I know a Hellkom T-shirt.

It's like selling cars capable of doing 240hmph when the max speed limit is 120kmph.

Hey wait a minute......

No, it's really not. It's far more heinous than that! It's like finding a blind guy, putting him in the desert until he's almost dehydrated, leading him to a well and giving him a sieve to drink with. And then saying: "HAH! TAKE THAT YOU ****ER! THOUGHT YOU WERE GOING TO LIVE DIDN'T YOU!"

I think its a step in the right direction and its still cheaper than the old price of dsl 512.
If only they would scrap the idea of pay-per-gig

When would you want a 1024kb connection (with a cap)?

Never.

Every few months I download a new linux distro - 4 CDs (some are 6 CDs). 4CDs weigh in at 2.5GB. The complete download, usually takes less than 24 hours. 1024kb line will take 8 hours. Why would I spend an extra 300-400 rand per month, so I can save an average of 4 hours per MONTH?

Now, increase the cap to 60GB+ (or remove it completely), and I can use it for web radio, streaming video...

Streaming a movie online will cost you around R30 to rent. The bandwidth to stream it will cost you more than R100. O the greed...

That's exactly the point. I spent the entier night last night watching Nasa TV and Sputnik-7 (streaming anime). Why? Because as a broadband user, I have both the capacity and the cap to do so. Increase my speed to 1024 and my capacity goes up but my cap stays the same? Bollocks to that.
